Author's Note: So.. Its been a while now, a long while. I again apologise for the huge absence that happened after Chapter 11. Writer's block and several complications had snuffed out my plans and passion for this story but nevertheless, I have taken time and have readied myself to continue this story. Although I am still unsure of a chapter schedule, I will certainly update when I do. Several changes have also been done, mostly settings. Anyways I hope you enjoy this chapter and remember to vote and comment.

Kate Hamilton and Misaka Tori stood beside Vincent as he scanned the footage archives of the local area around the crime scene. "Are you sure nothing happened? Maybe if you scrub back again and look closer." Kate's eyes desperately paced back and forth, scanning each moment, searching for anything.. Anything that could lead him to his brother.
"I've run through the footage ten times now. There's nothing, either the people who took your brother covered up their tracks well or nothing really happened." Vincent put a hand on Kate's shoulder to comfort her but she shrugged it off and paced the room nervously.
Who had taken Adrian and why? Had they found out about his powers? Had she accidentally spilt the secret because she wasn't careful? The answer felt so close but her thoughts were cut by the feeling of cold steel press against the back of her head and a voice cut through the silent tension in her mind. "You really shouldn't stick your nose in businesses you have nothing to do with."
The man's voice was clear and concise she tried to look back and see who it was but dark lights in the room did nothing to help. Looking around she saw Misaka staring past her. Misaka's eyes flitted nervously as she tried to keep her cool, her mouth ready to say something but it didn't happen. Misaka knew her place, she wouldn't want to jeopardise the mission but this wasn't right. Markson had appeared too early, they weren't allowed to interfere unless something big had messed up the mission and she had a feeling it just did.

My father held out his hand, I stood in confusion as he silently closed his eyes and focused. "This is your essence, well, our essence." A ball of red sparks, about the size of an apple, formed on his palm, it pulsated and gathered, like a school of fishes swimming about in brilliant light.
"You see Adrian, we come from a long line of wizards, magicians, demigods, whatever the people decide to call it these days. Our family and several others can tap into this energy and manipulate it the way its meant to be. Each family has a different coloured essence," The ball of sparks changed colours as if to emphasise his point. "Ours is red, the colour of speed and excitement, we can harness its energy to, as you know, run fast but it can do more than that which you'll have to discover and learn by yourself." He closed his hand and the sparks dissipated into him.
"The history of these sparks run deep, I'm sure you're aware of the Greek god Hermes," I nod in silent shock as he explains further. "Well, he was one of the first "spark bearers" along with the other Greek gods and other deities throughout history. We're all related Adrian." I take an uneasy step back as I try to absorb what I have just heard but I had a different question in mind. "W-What about Kate? Why can't she harness the spark?"
"The spark manifests and activates in many, different ways. I'm sure your sister will manifest her spark soon."

The sudden rush of the moment sent adrenaline pumping hard into Kate's system, her ears heard nothing but the increasing thumping of her heart. "Now play nice and put your hands up." The man pushed the gun harder against her head, her mind raced, she had to do something. If she failed not only will her life be on the line but her brother's too, the brother that he had sworn to protect for years
"Markson put the gun down a-and stay calm Kate, I have everything under control." Misaka's wary voice pierced her thinking and had replaced new questions into her mind forcing her heart almost out of its bony cage, then she felt it, no, saw it. The world ran slower Misaka's mouth agape and slowly closing as he heard the beginning of a loud bang and a flash of light behind her, the heat started prickling the back of her head.
Kate turned on instinct seeing the bullet exit the gun slowly the flames shooting outwards. The metal projectile progressed towards where she had been, she followed it with her gaze seeing its trajectory pure adrenaline and shock moved her. She disarmed Markson throwing the gun away as it froze mid-air then she pushed the bullet away directing it towards a glass beaker. "That was-" A loud shatter filled the room as time resumed out of Kate's control and the loud bullet left her ears ringing, a shrill noise that faded into the back as all eyes were on her, staring in shock.
