Winter parked in our usual space, right in front of the front doors. It was convenient, because we usually stayed after school sparing and working on our routines; but most of the time we're supposed to be practicing, we're just messing around.
We pile out of the car and it's just like any other day. Leigh-Ann on one side, Winter on the other, and Damon walking backwards in front of us. We were just talking and laughing loudly standing by our lockers, when Saydie sauntered up with a smirk on her face.
She said, "I heard you finally met your match yesterday."
I smile, "oh really?"
Saydie nodded, "I never knew you could moonstone inlaid weapons at these schools."
I shook my head, "those weapons are illegal. Just like your witch hunter parents."
I guess I forgot to mention that. Saydie's parents were witch hunters. I say were because they were caught and sentenced to death. Their reason for hunting witches was some bullshit about all witches being evil. That's bullshit, because the evil ones let their power rule over common sense. That almost happened to me, it's a good thing I met Winter before I let my power control me. She's saved me from far worse than just being bullied, and she knows it.
Anyway, she hates her parents for what they did, and I guess she didn't expect me to bring them up. I mean really, if you're gonna insult me like that, you have to expect I'd hit you with something at least twice as hard.
Okay, well mine was more like a cannonball compared to her water balloon. I know what I said was low, and Winter, Leigh-Ann, and Damon were all looking at me cautiously. They knew why I said that, but that doesn't mean they agree it was the right thing to say. I only said that, because if I said something that wasn't the least bit insulting, we'd still be "insulting" each other, and I'd be getting pissed. So I just cut to the chase and ended it, without getting pissed.
Saydie's eyes widened and her mouth dropped, and she screeched, "what the fuck is wrong with you? Why would you say that?"
I roll my eyes, "if you keep getting pissed at people for bringing up your parents like that, people are gonna keep bringing it up."
Saydie's face hardened, "so is that why you're such a bitch? You just take what people dish and bottle it up inside?"
I smile, "better than letting it get to me. It's better than being thought of as weak."
It is, but I don't keep things bottled up inside; I usually take it out on a punching bag. Sometimes I vent to Winter, Leigh-Ann, Danny, and Damon. It just depends on what's closer.
Saydie balled her fists, "fine. Be that way. Go die like your parents did, failing your friends and family."
My body stiffens but before I could set her on fire, Winter stepped in front of me.
Her beautiful voice was full of venom twenty times more lethal than a rattlesnake's, "wow. That's hypocritical of you. Saying it was low to bring up your parents, then you turn around and do the same thing. Why don't you leave before I move aside and let Faith send you to the moon."
Saydie stood there shocked like the rest of us before she scurried off down the hall.
Winter turns around and her smile reminds me of happy child, "I've never liked her."
Getting over my shock I laugh, "where in your happy pixie self did that come from?"
Winter grinned and tapped her chest just over her heart, "in here. You've defended me many times. It's about time I start repaying the favor."
I grin and wrap my arms around her tiny waist, "you've gone soft. Wait no, that's not right. Your balls have finally dropped! It's a miracle!"
Winter, Leigh-Ann, and Damon all laugh, and we start towards our first class.

The day passes flawlessly, especially during my free period. I was alone the entire time, and I was able to actually find my target. He was in a run down motel a couple towns over. Perfect.
Then our fighting class began. I had no qualms about going in, I've honestly had too many embarrassing moment to be even the slightest bit embarrassed about what happened yesterday. So I walked into the gym with my head high, laughing and joking with my friends; like usual, well minus the teleportation, because we were a few minutes early.
I ignored the people who were whispering. If I saw anyone walk up with a defiant look on their face, I'd give them my "if you fuck with me, you die" glare, and they'd walk off.
Before class started, Travis walks up to our group, but we didn't stop talking. We just straight up ignore him. Until he annoyingly cleared his throat.
I look up at him, "what do you want?"
I think Travis's smile was supposed to be sincere, but to me it looked twisted, "I'm sorry about yesterday; I didn't realize that my dad had kept his witch hunter's blades after he retired from the business when it became illegal."
I feel Damon's arm tighten around me as he growled. I elbowed him, and he stopped, but he looked annoyed.
Rolling my eyes, I say, "like that makes me feel better."
Travis said, "look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean for that to happen, and I realize now that you could've easily killed me yesterday; although I don't understand why you didn't."
I say, "I don't need the death of an idiot on my conscience."
Travis stood there for a bit before saying, "I also want to challenge you to a rematch. No weapons; best two out of three. First knocked off their feet looses."
I nod, "sounds like it could be fun."
Travis smiled, "cool. Coach Jones already okayed it. I just had to get you to agree."
I roll my eyes as Coach Jones announced the rematch. Stretching a little, I take my throwing knifes off me and hand them to Leigh-Ann.
Travis and I meet up in the middle of the gym and square off. I'm gonna show this sorry fucker just who he's messing with.
