FLASHBACK CHAPTER

Kol, Devina, and Mia had just settled in on a home that they would live in "forever". Mia had picked it out, claiming it looked like her home with mommy. 

"Uncle Kol." Mia mumbled as she grabbed his arm.

He was about to tell her to go away since he didn't really like children,"Yes Mia?" 

"I can't sleep." Her eyes were red as if she had been crying, Kol almost laughed at the way she pronounced 'sleep' as 'seep'. 

He sighed and put his glass on the table next to him. Devina was in bed and Kol didn't sleep most nights due to the Hallow talking,"What's the matter?" 

Slowly Mia crawled into his lap,"I miss my mom." She looked down at her fingers. She had a stuffed animal that Devina had given her but they said that her mother had bought it for her. She hasn't let it go since she got it. 

Kol took in a sharp breath when the small child wrapped her arms around his neck, he gently brought his arms around the child. She was sobbing quietly and She thought Kol couldn't hear her but due to his vampire hearing he most certainly could,"It-It will be fine darling." 

Mia pulled back with snot running down her face,"Where is she? Why did she send me with you?" She didn't mean to be rude but her mother saved her from the shelter, and made her happy. 

Kol looked into her eyes and could see the heartbreak. She was more broken then he was over his sister's death, he didn't know what to say or to do. 

"Is she mad at me?" Her voice cracked and he grabbed her arms and stared at ehr.

"Your mother loves you. She is not mad at you. She's just, just sick." Kol breathed in deep and the small child grabbed him again pulling him into a hug. 

"Is she with Uncle Damon?" She whispered into his neck. Kol didn't say anything to Mia and soon enough her breathing slowed. 

He knew she was sleeping, gently he picked her light body up and carried her up the stairs. He walked into her room and laid her in the dark. Kol pulled the blanket over her body not sure what else a parent would do in a situation like this or at all. He tucked her stuffed animal in her blanket and she snuggled into it. 

"Goodnight darling." He mumbled as he closed the curtains and plugged in a nightlight that had fell out of her wall. 

He closed her door softly and began to walk past his and Devina's bedroom. He stood in the doorway and watched her sleep for a few moments. Suddenly he didn't want the scotch anymore downstairs and the voices subsided.

The next day Devina woke up first and went to check on Mia out of concern. She smiled when she saw her door was open hoping the child came out of her shell a little without being told to. 

She saw the child wasn't in her room so she began to walk down the stairs. A small breeze came up the stairs. Once Devina reached the bottom of the steps, she saw that the door was open. Panic flooded through her body and before she knew what she was doing she ran outside. 

Mia wasn't there, she wasn't in sight,"Kol!" Devina yelled out,"Mia!" 

With a instant Kol was at Devina's side, he looked all roughed up and tired,"What?"

"Mia's gone." Devina breathed out, almost tears in her eyes. 

"Mia!" Kol boomed out and took off. He could hear a heartbeat and followed it down the street. He saw her blonde hair first before anything. He slowly stopped speed running and started jogging so she wouldn't know what he was,"Hey little one where were you going?" He asked as he caught up to her. 

She was walking in her PJ's and in her small rain boots,"To get ice cream."  She looked up at him sadly. 

"It's freezing out, let's get you home." He went to grab her and she glared at him.

"Mommy takes me for ice cream every friday." Kol nearly dropped her when he felt the heat from her hands.

"Mia stop." He snapped at her,"If you want bloody ice cream we have to go home first!"

"Okay." She sadly said and Kol rolled his eyes. He hated kids and he hated the scared that she just gave him. He began jogging back to the house where Devina sat on the front steps. 

"Mia oh my god!" Devina yelled out,"Never scare me like that again!" 

"Uncle Kol said we can get ice cream." Mia smiled at Devina ignoring how upset she was.

"Anything you want darling." He smiled at Mia hoping that she wouldn't take off like that again.
