Hana:

"Well, they wouldn't have just left."

Annabel's voice rings through the fog in my mind. She doesn't sound worried, she hasn't jumped to the conclusion that I have. Maybe that's all I'm doing, jumping to conclusions. But there is this sick feeling growing in the pit of my stomach, and I can't help but feel so stupid. Of course we couldn't have gone back to the way it was before. Not after what I did, and not after the time that Lena's spent in the Wilds. She's a different person. It hasn't even been a year, but yet Lena seemed so much older. Her eyes looked flat, as if she had seen too much, and I have no doubt that she had. She knows what to get away from, when flight is safer than fight, maybe that thing was me.

"They could've," the words come out of my mouth as barely a whisper. But Annabel still heard me.

"What? You really think they would've just run away?" Annabel asks incredulously. "Lena wouldn't do that."

"I don't know," I say slowly. "It's just what I think."

"Lena wouldn't just run away from her issues," she places Grace back on the ground, and she comes over to me. "She's-"

"I'm what?"

We both spin around to see Lena standing there, her clothes rumbling, as if she had just woken up, like me. Her hand is gripping Alex's and he is looking at her with a look of pure admiration. Relief floods through my veins, as I see her. She hadn't left after all.

"What's going on?" she asks as she walks over to us, Alex coming as well, both of them still hand in hand.

"Nothing," Annabel says before I can answer. "We were just looking for you. But here you are. I have to talk to you, Magdalena."

"Okay," Lena starts, looking to me for a second. She can tell that something is off, but she doesn't question it. "What do you need to talk to me about?"

"Not here."

"We can go back to Alex's trailer," Lena suggests.

"Sure," she turns to Alex. "Alex, you can come as well, this regards both of you." She looks at Grace, "You can stay here with Hana."

Gracie nods, and Annabel looks at me, and give her a slight nod to say that it is alright.

Annabel turns to leave, Alex following close behind. Lena turns and gives me a small smile before turning and following after her mother.
