Parker and Veronica's P.O.V.
We were silent for a moment as his body came into contact with the fast van. But the second he hit the ground I ran from a friends arms to my brother who's head was bleeding with the severeness of the impact.
"Jessie..." I said breathlessly running to Veronica who held him in her arms but only I knew too well he was gone.
"Call an ambulance!" A man shouted nearby.
I stumbled for my smartphone and dialled the number as quickly as possible. My thin hands trembled from the adrenaline in my body rushing at a hundred miles per hour as I made the call.
"We need someone anyone!" She screamed unable to control her worry.
"Where are you and what is your emergency?" A woman asked answering on first ring.
"June Street Plaza, my brother has been hit by a car." Veronica said.
"Someone will be on the way shortly-." The lady responded and Veronica hung up instantly.
"You have to let go." Parker said looking at the floor with eyes closed.
"What? Parker what's wrong with you? I can't give up he's still in there somewhere, he needs me." Veronica replied staring into Jessie's now fading eyes.
"He always needed you, but you were the one who pushed away." Parker said kneeling down beside me with eyes unable to open in sight of the blood.
"Don't say that." She said burying her face away from Parker's.
"You need to hear it. He needs to go to where he's mean to go Veronica. Let him go. This hurts me too." He said calmly.
"I can't don't you get it?!" Her voice escalated louder causing everyone to stare more than they already were.
"I get it! Believe me I do! He's all you have right? He's all you had. He's one of the many parts of our lives we had. But Veronica, we messed up. You should've never ran into the street, and I shouldn't have run after you. I should've held Jessie back. But this is the change in all of our lives, he's not going to be around anymore and we need to let him go now for him and ourselves. Let go of his body, close his eyes and remember how badly you love him. That will be a good start." Parker said opening his eyes with tears cascading down his face.
My breathing stopped almost completely and I nodded now understanding his words. I laid Jessie's head to the pavement and took off my sweater to wrap around him for safety no matter where he may go.
"I'm sorry it had to end this way." He said closing his eyes feeling heartbreak never more seriously in his whole life.
"I think there's only one thing left we can do now." She said as she sat on the icy road with bloody clothes and bruised knees from the pavement.
"I know, believe me I know..." Parker said as his hair flourished through the wind and as he looked down at that body one last time who had just wanted to save his sister, and friend from becoming a wisp of nothing, yet we had failed him as he was alive, but no longer would things be this way. We we're going to change before anyone else got hurt, because this could've been prevented if only we knew that we are not invincible, we break as easily as a twig compared to the vastness of this world. We haven't even graduated high school yet, but I felt we knew more real world value than anyone would ever be able to teach us from a textbook.
Parker's P.O.V.
One person makes a decision, and everyone is effected. Such as Veronica's choice to run into the street, putting herself at risk, but ended up affecting her brother instead. Out of all the times we had run across the street in a rush, this is the only time it was deadly. Jessie died almost a month ago now, and with the funeral over the grieving period had just started, but also new lives had begun.
