Toby's POV

I waited in my room for about 5 minutes before I decided to go check on Ella. She hadn't come back from changing shirts yet. I walked to the bathroom and knocked on the door, calling her name. There was no answer.

"Hey have you guys seen Ella?" I asked Gabe and Tim, who were sitting in the kitchen.

"She left a few minutes ago," Gabe said.

"Yeah she said something about that she had to and to tell you sorry," Tim explained.

"So she's gone? She just left?" I said in utter disbelief.

"Yep. You alright?" Gabe asked.

"I'm fine I-"

I was interrupted by Jack yelling something from the living room.

"Hey! You guys might want to come here!" he shouted.

We ran to him to see him pointing out the window. I looked outside to see at least 30 zombies slowly making their way towards the house. They'd found us.

"Where's my mom?" I asked Tim.

"She asleep in her room." he answered.

"These things usually just target one person. Once they've got one, they leave. You guys go in her room. Keep her safe. I'll stay here," I said, grabbing my pistol.

"We're not leaving you here. Toby you can't hold these things off." Jack said.

"I can try. If I fail, .. You four will be safe." I said.

The door shook with a banging noise. It was hit. Once.. Twice..

"Go! Now!" I yelled, and they reluctantly obeyed.

I shot the first zombie to come in. And the second. And the third. But after that they came in more than one at a time. I shot three more only to realize I only had six bullets. So now I was out of a weapon. They didn't stop though. The sickening monsters still slowly surrounded me. Luckily I was the main focus. At first I attempted to back away, only to be cornered. I decide this was the best way. This would keep the others safe. I sunk down onto the floor, closing my eyes.

A screeching noise emitted from the zombie that was closest to me. I looked to see it flop to the ground, and arrow protruding from its back. Three more went down, and the other zombies turned to see what was killing their friends.

Standing on top of a table, behind the crowd of zombies, was Ella her bow in hand, picking of zombies one by one.

"Toby! Catch!" she yelled, tossing me another pistol.

I caught it and began shooting zombies. It took a while but soon, all of them were dead.

Ella hopped off the table, breathing hard. She started to retrieve her arrows from the limp bodies.

"Ella! You- You're back. You saved my life," I managed, running up to her.

She just looked me in the eyes and gave a small smile. Gosh, her eyes were beautiful. A perfect green. She was beautiful. No matter how sweaty and dirty.

I couldn't help it. I kissed her. Softly on the lips, not necessarily passionately, just a kiss.

I stopped once she didn't kiss back.
