Toby's POV

"We're fine Mom." I said, my voice muffled. "You can let go of me now."

"I'm sorry. Oh Toby I thought you had..." she trailed off but I knew what she meant.

My mother spotted Ella enter the door behind me and targeted her as her next victim. Mom ran to her engulfing her in a suffocating hug that she previously had me in.

I chuckled as the guys came to meet me.

"Man, I'm going to lose count of how many times everyone thinks you're dead." Gabe joked, giving me a hug.

"Sorry, I'm full of surprises. It's a curse." I replied.

"Seriously Toby you need to stop scaring us." Tim said with a slight chuckle.

"No promises," I said, ruffling Tim's blonde hair.

"You're an idiot," Jack said, clamping a hand on my shoulder and smiling.

Mom rushed off to the kitchen, saying something about fixing dinner.

I gestured for Ella to follow me to my bedroom. We walked down the hall together and closed the door behind us.

"What is it?" She asked, taking a seat on the edge of my bed.

"I don't know," I said, choosing to sit at my spinny desk chair, "I just wanted to see if you were okay,"

"I don't know that any of us are okay," she replied, laying back on my bed.

"Well we've had quite an eventful past few days. I mean, seeing a dead guy. I got stabbed...By the dead guy. Seeing the dead guy be a jerk. Getting attacked by zombies."

Ella laughed a bit, before going back to staring aimlessly at the ceiling fan.

"It's funny I randomly had the thought yesterday while I was, you know, throbbing in pain from a stab wound, that it would make a great vlog," I said, honestly.

"I don't know how many views that video would get," she replied, without a laugh.

Ella rose up a looked at me.

"Toby do you ever wonder about all your friends and family? Where they are and if they're still alive?"

"All the time," I replied with a sigh, "Thank God I have my mom and Gabe and Tim here, but I've got a lot more people that I worry about everyday. A part of me wants to go and find them all. I could never leave mom though. Do you have anyone still out there?"

"My dad. I think he's tough enough, smart enough to survive though. Maybe I'll get to see him again."

"Mom?"

"Died of cancer," Ella said.

I noticed her twisting her charm bracelet in her fingers. Nervous habit, I suppose.

"I'm sorry,"

"It was 12 years ago. You'd think after that long you would be over it. I'm not."

I got up and sat beside her. She laid her head on my shoulder for a while, then turned to kiss me.

The sweet kiss was interrupted by Jack, the doofus, bursting in.

"Ew get a room!" He yelled.

"We're in a room, idiot."

"Whatever," he said, sitting down in between Ella and I. "I came to tell you guys that I'm leaving. I've decided that I need to find Erin,"

"Jack-" I started.

"Nothing's gonna change my mind I'll tell you that right now. I love her, Toby. I gotta find her,"

"Okay," I said, with a sad smile, "When are you leaving?"

"Tomorrow morning," Jack said, standing up, "You guys continue whatever I've got to gather my stuff,"

Once Jack had left, Ella turned to me.

"Whose Erin?"

"Girlfriend." I replied, simply.
