Ella's POV

Toby led the way back to his home. We didn't talk much. I watched his feet and tried to match the pattern of his walk. His limp made it difficult. After that I just fiddled with the charm bracelet that my mom gave to me when I was 10. A year before she died of cancer. I missed her. I missed my dad too. I still had the tiniest sliver of hope that he could still be alive though. Surviving.

Toby decided to break the silence.

"We're about halfway there. About 10 more minutes." he said.

"Okay." I replied.

I was so tired. Physically and emotionally drained. I wish I could just change everything. Make it back the way it was. Although I wasn't sure if that was exactly what I wanted.

I heard a moan which I expected came from Toby. His leg probably hurt really bad.

I turned my attention back to my charm bracelet, examining each charm that hung from the silver chain. A book to represent my love of reading. A letter E for my name. A small horse because I loved to ride. A heart with a ruby inside for my birthstone. And an arrow since I loved archery. It was only a sport to me when my dad bought me that charm. Now it's a weapon.

Another moan. Louder and it sounded like it came from more than one person...

"Ella!"

I quickly loaded an arrow and shot the nearest zombie. Toby pulled his pistol but had trouble shooting. I shot five more zombies and retrieved a few of my arrows before taking aim at the others. Toby shot a few and left only four remaining. I shot two and so did he.

I spun around an arrow loaded in search of any more targets. No more left.

I brought my bow down and pulled the rest of my arrows out of the zombies. I was sweaty and out of breath. The last thing I wanted to do was walk some more. At the last zombie body that still had an arrow protruding out, I sunk down to my knees. My breathing was quick and I was beginning to get light headed.

"Ella? You alright?"

Toby's voice was the last thing I heard before I blacked out.

I woke up to see a clear view of the stars between the branches hanging over me. The night beauty was the only thing keeping me from retreating back into my sleep. I loved stars. I remember searching for constellations with my mom ever since I was four. The only one I could spot now was the little dipper.

I turned to look beside me to see Toby sleeping lightly on the grass. We were lying under a large tree. I couldn't remember anything since the zombies.

It was kind of cold to my surprise. I was wearing a tank top and shorts which didn't help. I scooted closer to Toby in need of his body heat to keep me warm. I nuzzled my head onto his shoulder. That caused him stir.

"You alright?" he whispered.

I just nodded my head and closed my eyes. I felt Toby plant a light kiss on my forehead. He wrapped his arm around me pulling me ever closer. I wish I could stay this way forever.
