In my journey
to New York
I have seen
staring faces
blinking lights
and tall buildings
Rebecca POV
Well, I made it through all the rounds leading up to the finals and I have 6,000 dollars. I’m on my way to New York and so far all I see is black, everyone is wearing black and no one stands out except for my sister and I wearing bright dresses. Her pink dress and my blue dress really stand out in the swarm of black clothing. It took us 3 and a half hours to get here in a car from Boston.
Besides the colorless people, everything is beautiful here. I was taking in the scenery when my dad asked, “Hey Beck, are you excited?”
“Not really. I don’t think I’m ready.”
“It’s just speaking in front of people.”
“What?”
“You didn’t know?”
“No.” I walked over to Mandi.
“Mandi, you never told me I have to go on stage in front of people and recite 22 poems.”
“Beck, I’m sorry.”
“How am I going to do this?”
“Pretend you’re in choir and all the members are with you.”
“What if that doesn’t work?”
“Imagine everyone naked.”I must have looked at her like she had three heads because she said, “Don’t worry it works, but it’s pretty disturbing. I suggest you try the first way.” She giggled and lead me to the back of the stage.
I peeked through the curtain. This auditorium was huge. I can’t do this.
I can’t.
