Dana Scully sat in her partner Fox Mulder's hospital room, next to his bed. She had been there all day, waiting for updates on his current condition.

"Scully, how long have you been up?", Mulder's eyes fluttered open as he awakened from sleep.

"Mulder, I haven't slept at all since you where admitted to the hospital, really. I'm not saying this to make you feel bad, I'm just telling you the truth," Scully replied, yawning.

"I'm sorry, Scully. You should really get some rest, you know," Mulder whispered to Scully.

"Mulder, don't be sorry. And you know I won't be able to sleep until you get better," Scully said, struggling to keep her eyes open.

Before Mulder and Scully could say anything else to each other, the door creaked open and one of the many doctors working at the hospital walked inside with a clipboard hugged to his chest.

"Dana Scully? I need to speak to you about your partners condition. Alone," The man said as worry overcome his face.

Scully got up from where she was sitting, and rested her two hands on Mulder's bed to stop herself from shaking too hard. After a few seconds, she stood up fully and walked outside of the room with the man.

"Hello, Agent. My name is Dr. James Hayes, and I have come here to tell you that your partner Fox Mulder needs to be transferred to a different hospital," James told Scully with the same expression on his face.

"Why, sir, if you don't mind me asking? Normally patients get transferred to a different hospital only if their condition worsens, and I personally as a medical doctor myself think Mulder here is doing better," Scully asked as her red eyebrows raised in confusion.

"I'm sorry, but I was told not to answer any of your questions concerning that matter by my boss. If you want to consult my boss on that matter, you are aloud to do so," James answered, and handed Scully paperwork that had been hidden by  his clipboard.

"What is this? I never said I agreed to let you bring him somewhere else. In fact, as his good friend and partner, I refuse to let you bring him anywhere else. And, frankly, I don't have the jurisdiction to sign any papers you hand me as it is," Scully frowned, her tone of voice becoming annoyed.

"You do have the proper jurisdiction. The only other person that is allowed to, Director Walter Skinner, told me personally that he thinks that you should make the decision," James said in response to Scully's question.

"Well, you could you at least tell me how he is doing so I could make my decision based off of that," Scully rolled her eyes playfully, as if Mulder had just said something silly about the extraterrestrial.

"Agent, your partner is in more pain than you think he is. Last night, myself and a few other nurses had to hold him down just to give him sedatives to help him calm down and get some rest,"

Before James could say anything else, Scully heard Mulder moan her name in the other room.

Instead of speaking with this man more, Scully decided enough was enough and entered Mulder's room.

What she saw made her even more lightheaded and sick than she was before.

The smoking man stood over Mulder's hospital bed with a syringe filled with a strange substance that Scully had never seen in her life. He was in the middle of squirting it into Mulder's mouth, and the effects it had on him seconds later mortified her.
