The light filled the darkness.
It surrounded me as I was on top of a building, a building overlooking all of City X. But there was no wall, and a small town was visible in the distance. It was the city I was used to, but it wasn't. A mouse sat on my shoulder and a boy who was older than me was holding my hand.
Looking at this, I thought to myself for a minute. Thought about how I got up here and how I survived...
I replayed all the events in my head once more, like it was a story being told in my head again. About how messed up this society really is. Not only to the people living inside of it, but outside of the walls, where the Outer City, or its more common name, City Death, lies.
The city where reality is not sunshine and rainbows, but despair and death everywhere., with that illusion in mind.
That's where I met him. Again, actually.
Damien, with his dark brown hair that was dyed bright red at the ends and his golden yellow eyes, I remember him so clearly in my memories. But that's not all I remember.
You must be so confused about all of this right now. I'll tell you more.
It all started just a few days ago, where I found a place I was never supposed to find in the walls of the West Side of City X. You see, we're called 'Mechanicals', which are the people who are made out of gears and wires. We look like normal humans, except we're different on the inside. Sounds simple enough, right?
Well, not having emotions such as love is kind of complicated. You never feel any compassion towards anyone, not even your own parents. We can feel 'happiness', which isn't even real! It's just a triggering event in our system that makes us feel these so-called 'feelings'. So is 'sadness', 'anger', the like.
This is the world we live in. Well, the ones who obey the leader and rules of 愛, which is the Japanese word for love. I found this out when I was around the age of four; it's spelled 'Ai' as in Artificial Intelligence and pronounced 'I', which is kind of clever for the government to make up.
Anyways, this isn't about now, it's about going through the whole story again. Where it all began...
Back when I was actually in City X.
