Beyoncé Knowles'
I searched through my little sister's wardrobe looking for the teal scarf that I knew she stole from me. Just then I heard her bedroom door screech open, so I hid inside her wardrobe.
Holding my breath I watched as she bounced on her bed with a huge sigh escaping her mouth. She pulled a magazine from under her mattress then stared hard before biting her lower lip as she lifted the magazine kissing it.
My hands covered my mouth to keep from laughing, but the whole thing was too funny, I pushed open the wardrobe door jumping out at her as she yelled.
"You littl-" I cackled about to tickle her but pausing as I stared down at the naked picture of the woman.
She tried covering the magazine as I yank it from her reading the cover 'Playboy' it read in bold print with a topless girl on the cover–this must've been one of Isaiah's books.
"I can explain..." She started, "don't tell mom and dad on me."
"I won't but is there something you want to tell me..."
She sighed, "no..."
I frowned at her after flipping through each page all nudes of women.
"I'm going to hell aren't I?" She cried, getting back in bed and burying her face in her arms. I threw the magazine. Placing a hand on her shoulder as she looked up with tears in her eyes. "I like... I'm... I-I'm gay, okay, and I'm going to hell!"
"No, you aren't..." I replied as she continued crying.
"It says so in the Bible," she mumbled.
"Z, look at me, look! You aren't going to hell. God wouldn't send someone as amazing as you to a place like that." I tried cheering her as she sat up still wiping her eyes, so I hug her, and she cried on my shoulder.
"Don't tell mom and dad, okay!" she repeated.
"You'll find a good man to marry someday, this, this is just some evilness Isaiah brought." I pointed to the magazine as she cried harder.
"I don't like boys, and I don't want to marry one." she pouted as I lift her off my shoulder–I didn't understand since my little sister has always been a tomboy but I never thought she wanted to actually be as a boy.
The whole thing stayed on my mind all throughout work somewhere in me kept telling me she's just 16 and will change–I hoped she would because if my parents found out there's no telling what they'd do.
Time flew by, at work as I closed up the hair shop and got ready to go. I heard a loud horn following me as I was walking home.
It was the Shawn guy!
"Need a ride?" he asked from the window of his car making me roll my eyes getting annoyed. "Remember the promise you made to me at church; I know you ain't the type to lie in a place of the Lord, are you?"
I stopped as he drove near me opening the passenger door.
"This will be quick." I said before getting inside "I have things to do.
"You on your feet all day you need to chillax."
I rolled my eyes glaring at the radio at the nonsense he was listening to. "Turn this crap off please!"
"Crap!? You mean rap aka the best thing to happen to music," he said.
"No! I mean crap which is just one of the reasons why our Black brothers are killing each other and ending up behind bars." I told him.
He laughed, "If so then what's our Black sistas excuse?"
"Excuse me!?"
"You talking all these lies about Black guys, what about you females?"
"What about us?" I asked about ready for him to pull this car over, to let me out.
"Y'all the ones with the womb, therefore, its y'all job to control it but most of y'all be only wanting babies for the welfare and child support. So y'all can buy yo lil hair weaves and other fake shit from other races making them richer," he said.
"We wouldn't have to do that if y'all niggas got off y'all Black asses to build something as a collective. And I don't know who you think you foolin' as if y'all don't spend money on sneakers, game consoles, cars, and other irrelevant replaceable shit!" I angered.
He stared at me as I pursed my lips.
"I can't believe you cursed." he cackled, "The preacher's daughter!"
I shook my head not believing I did either. As I did a silent prayer asking for forgiveness after. He turned off the music slowly driving up into a parking lot where hundreds of cars were already parked.
"Where are we?" I whispered, staring at the signs and things before realizing this was the county fair.
"So you gon show me around or what?"
"This isn't a date."
"Never said it was."
