I stood from my seat as dad called me to the stage on Sunday. I didn't know why until he asked me to go over that verse from last week which I completely forgot all about. The words seemed to all grow small as I stared into the bible. "Um," I whispered as laughter came from some people who attended.

"You don't know... Do you?" He knowingly asked as I shook my head, so he continued in a mocking tone. "Teenagers..."

I looked down at my sandals before walking offstage and back towards my seat feeling embarrassed cuz usually I did my bible studying beforehand. I don't know how I forgot this time around but once church was over for the day I was relieved, to say the least.

"It's okay at least you looked good while messing up." One of the churchgoers, Terrence Howard said. I brushed a strand of hair behind my ear before. Putting on a forced smile as he stuffed his pockets with his hands. "A few people from church and I are heading over to the theater for a movie if your schedule is clear you should really consider coming along?"

"Uh..." I paused to look over Terrence's shoulder at Jay who was leaning on his car and waving his hand for me to come over. "I have to um help my mom with the um yard work so maybe some other time."

I walked off directly after that as Jay smiled down at me. "Who was that?"

"Piano guy from church." I shrugged while getting into his car and clicking on my seat belt.

"What did he want?"

"Why?"

"-because I'ma very curious individual that's all," he replied before driving away.

"More like nosey." I teased him which made him laugh "He wanted me to go see a movie with him and a few of his friends."

"Mhm, so he was trying to make a move in a dark theater that's not exactly romantic."

"Make a move? No, he's my friend, and I doubt you know anything about romance." I frowned while folding my arms over my bosom.

"You'd be surprised!" He smirked.

I rolled my eyes at that then continued looking out the window as he drove. Minutes later, he pulled up at the lake. The sun was setting as we stepped out of his car. And he took out a pack of beer and cigarettes.

"Sometimes you gotta say fuck it and live life." He advised before taking a seat on one of the many benches.

"I can't say that..." I said, watching as he sipped from a can.

"Yes, you can it's simple... Fuck it! Now your turn."

"F-fu... I can't!"

"You had no problem swearing in the car that time," he told me before standing and walking over to look down at the lake from the boardwalk.

I shook my head at that memory, but a smile quickly overtook my features. "That was a mistake."

"Shit! Obviously but in life, you're bound to make many mistakes. That's just how it's sposed to be. And the easiest way to let it all out is by saying fuck it." He replied.

I looked at him then down at the water.

I had no idea then that he'd become a pivotal part of my life. That I'd change everything about myself to adjust to his way of living. Which seemed simple and carefree but sometimes the devil comes in disguise. Perhaps as a handsome stranger.
