Beyonce Knowles
9:02 AM
Tucson, Arizona.
Jay had given me money to go to the store out here. It wasn't hard at all to tell now money was running low since all I could afford was a 50¢ juice and a bag of potato chips–this was dinner.
More and more I started regretting leaving home but something in me kept telling me I was too far to turn back now.
"Don't I know you from somewhere?" a familiar-sounding voice spoke over my shoulder which caused me to turn around to face the blonde who I remembered from the club last week.
"Uh, yeah, I guess." I shrugged in response.
"Beatrice, right?"
"It's Beyoncé." I corrected.
"Oh! Yeah, that's it so what are you doing?"
"Nothing! I was just leaving." I said while turning on my heels and walking away as I went and paid for my things feeling so ashamed because this was all I could afford.
As I was walking to the motel a loud horn went off. "Need a ride?" That same blonde girl from a minute ago asked me "I don't bite unless provoked."
My feet were killing me in these sneakers, so I decided to take the offer; I got into the passenger seat and buckled my seat belt as she rode away. I looked at all the groceries she had in her backseat from the rearview mirror and instantly my stomach started growling.
"So how long you all been living here?"
"Not long."
"Figures," she replied while lighting a cigarette. "This is my third year here and each year I tell myself I'm leaving but I never do."
"No, thanks," I told her as she tried offering me a cigarette.
"I hope you don't mind the smoke, but it's the only stress reliever I got until around 2-something when my husband gets home, and we screw." she giggled at that last part.
I brush some of my hair behind my ear; not finding what she said funny but still, I forced a very fake. "Aha!"
"So what do you do?" she smashed the cigarette out onto the dashboard.
"Uh, I... um, I'm looking for work now."
"So you are unemployed?" she said, "well, I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you aren't going to find too many jobs out here in Arizona unless you want to work at some convenience store but those get robbed every other blue moon."
"What do you suggest?"
She chuckled loudly. "Sweetheart, I don't think you're ready for my suggestions. Besides you seem a little too innocent for my line of work but tell you what? I'll talk to my husband who's also my boss. And see if I could pull some strings for you a bartending job but heads up though you'll only be making chump change."
"Any money is good money–I don't mind I'll just be glad to be making my own again, thanks." I honestly told her.
"What are friends for?" She smirked.
That word took me back cuz I never had a friend that was a girl before.
She pulled up in front of the motel as I glanced back at the groceries in her car. Wanting so badly to snatch a bag and run. But I contained myself and walked off as she called me back to give me her phone number.
"Come by the club tonight," she added.
"I'll try, but I can't make any promises." With that said I continued towards the motel—It smelled weird inside the room as I opened a window to catch a breeze. "Jay, I'm back!" I yelled, noticing he was nowhere in sight. He must've gone back to that club early, I thought.
I sat on the edge of the bed. After flicking on the television as a Spongebob episode was on the basic channel since it was Saturday. I decided to watch while eating my snacks.
Minutes went by as the bathroom door swung open. And a girl walked out. Fixing the small green blouse she wore. Jay followed zipping up his baggy jeans then continued walking her out.
I rolled my eyes at the two of them. Feeling so disgusted as he came back. "I'm about to shower," He told me as if I cared when I didn't.
"I don't care." I hissed.
"I'm just letting you know so that you won't walk in on me," he answered. "Since the lock is broke like everything else around this tacky ass motel."
I straightened my hair as he continued making me annoyed. "Look! Don't have any more of them girls in here, okay?"
"-or what?" he snapped. "In order to make the rules around here, you have to be paying some bills' ma, and I have yet to see you do that."
"I will."
"With what money? You can't even buy yourself a bag of chips," he replied.
He had a point, but that wasn't about to stop me.
"And you can't even keep your thing in your pants!"
"Why do you care?" he taunted, I rolled my eyes, he laughed. "You got a crush on me."
My mouth fell open in complete and utter shock. "You aren't even cute enough to be this cocky!"
"It beats being insecure and boring like you."
I lifted one of the pillows throwing it at him as he ducked then threw it back. And we started throwing pillows at each other until he grabbed my waist. I reached for the pillow. Only to be pushed onto the bed with him on me. And something poking my backside.
My breathing was heavy as I tried catching it. But I found myself staring into his brown eyes instead. Then finally down at him still positioned on me like that. He bit his lower lip.
He rested his forehead on mine, "get off of me!" I cried before racing into the bathroom and locking the door.
