For the next week, you helped the team unpack some stuff and get the place up and running again. Within that week, you were around the entire team a lot more often. You got to see how Scout messes around with Heavy, how much Engie and Medic works themselves to make things for the team, how Demo really likes having drinking competitions with Soldier, and how Spy snoops around in everyone's drama while staying cloaked. In this time, you stuck with Sniper who luckily for you stayed in the background of the teams daily communing. Well, sometimes that is. Sometimes he would be dragged in by Scout or Spy. When ever that happened you took off like a wild animal to Sniper's camper before anyone else could grab you instead. It's nice to see the bunch of burly mercenaries have fun with each other and interact but there would be no need for you to join in on social time. To your hopes still, you wished to go home soon. That this would all blow over and you could live peacefully in a house on a Kansas plain somewhere. But for now you have to wait it out.
Your room was now placed in the upper west wing of the base. The best room in the house actually. It has a large deck just outside where you could see the sun set over mountain tops as far as the eye could see. Some nights you slept in your bed, some nights you didn't sleep and just stayed out on the deck looking at the stars. The men barley bothered you throughout the transition of settling in. You didn't mind, the time alone felt good. Heavy visited a lot more often now than any of the other men though. When Heavy came over, you sat with him and read some books he had brought for him and you. Nothing too hard for you to read of course but interesting enough. Sometimes Heavy would compliment you on your skills with throwing knives. Ever sense you came to this base you became a lot less energetic and happy. Your body became tired easily and you were always in a bad or stale mood. Most likely due to the situation and sharp change in weather atmosphere. You went from a dry barren desert to a cold rocky mountain.
As of right now you were curled up in a blanket, sitting on the porch in the late afternoon with a cup of warm steaming tea. It get's cold as night falls but the entire sky is covered in stars so you would rather freeze to death admiring them then stay behind glass and not get the full experience. Though, freezing to death is just an exaggeration. For now you sat and looked at the sun slowly fall. Behind you, a few knocks at your door and a muffled voice was heard. Before you could answer the door was opened and in came Engie and Pyro. You looked at them through the glass door leading to the porch. Engie smiled and entered onto the porch with Pyro, who opened the door in a heart beat and bounded over to you for a giant loving embrace. You gave out a tiny squeaked as Pyro squeezed you in a snuggly hug.
"Not so hard now Pyro! Ya don't want to hurt the darlin'." Pyro sighed/whined as he let you go and sat next to you. "Heya Darlin'. How are ya feelin'?" Engie slowly sat himself down to your other side. You shrug your shoulders and gently pat Pyro's back to cheer him up. Pyro let out a happy muffled noise and patted your head in return. Engie gave a hearty chuckle at you are Pyro playing around. "Wha' have you been up to recently?" Engie takes off his goggles and helmet so he can relax with you and Pyro.
" I.... read some books with Heavy sometimes......" You didn't look at Pyro or Engie beside you. You kept your gaze to the horizon and sipped your tea.
" And the other times?" Engie looked down at you. You took a moment to think of something to say but it resulted with another shrug. Engie hummed in response and noticed the blankets around you were shaking just the slightest. "Ya cold Darlin'?" Before you could respond Engie looked to Pyro. "Pyro, go inside and light up the fire place." With that, Pyro bounced up in excitement and squealed all the way out your room to the large living room. Engie slowly stood up and looked down at you. "Come on (y/n). I want to show ya somethin'." You slowly stood up and took your blanket and cup with you. Placing the cup and blanket on the floor, you fallowed Engie into the living room where thankfully only Pyro was. The living room had a fireplace in the wall, above it a large t.v. And in the center of the room was a large square coffee table with three couches around it. Each couch had three seats to it, adding up to be nine chairs for the whole team. You came in not realising how much you were shivering from the cold. You couldn't feel it really. Engie motioned you over to the fire place and there you sat on the floor a few feet away from the fire. You stared into the flames and burning wood.
"I have seen a fire place before Eng. (Still can't say his name, damnit.) Not that surprising....." You turn to look at Engie behind you. He chuckled softly and shook his head.
"Nah Darlin'. Not the fire. This." You noticed Engie had a remote in his hands. He clicked a button and the roof of the living room slide open to reveal a sky light boarded by maps of certain constellations. The stars light up the dim room just perfectly. Your eyes widened and you stared up at the sky in awe. "I saw ya on the deck a lot at night lookin' at the stars. So I made ya a sky light so ya can stay warm and still admire the sky. Maybe even come out of ya room sometimes if ya feel ok about it." Too taken with they wonderful sight, you didn't respond to Engie. All your focus was on the stars until through your left ear you heard a shuffle. You snap your head to the door to your left that leads into the kitchen. There in the door way, seven heads peeked out from the door frame. Once spotted, all the heads snapped back into the kitchen fallowed by many things breaking and a bunch of cursing as all the men scrabbling to get out of there without being seen. You kept your gaze at the door frame for a bit till all went silent. All that was left in the room was you and Engie, Pyro had ran after the other men probably thinking it was some game of tag or something. You turn your head to Engie and bow your head slightly.
"Thank you Eng....... I like it." You gave him a soft sad smile. Engie gave you a half smile, more concerned for you than anything. Engie walked over and kneeled down next to you. He patted your head gently and stood up.
"Anythin' to make ya feel more comfortable Doll." With that, Engie left and you sat alone in the middle of the living room wondering wether to try to get more comfortable with the team or to stay as distant from them as you are now. Either way, the only comfort you did have was the night sky. You missed home more than ever and it is making you noticeably depressed. The team has been trying to warm up to you. Maybe they care. Maybe they don't. But for now, just enjoy the star light.
