Chapter 2

Holden

I had no idea how my younger brothers were able to talk me into driving them to Vancouver just so they could watch a new movie that came out. There was a movie theatre a lot closer to Spruceworth, but Noah said he just wanted an excuse to be out longer so he could avoid Mom and Dad.

I didn't blame him. In fact, I was more than happy to take them because I knew what Noah was going through.

The only problem was I hated driving. I didn't even know why I bothered getting my learner's, or even my N afterwards. Then again, I live in a village where everything is in walking distance. I never really thought I'd have to drive anywhere.

To make things worse, on the way home, my vision was starting to get blurry for some reason. I kept blinking a few times, trying to clear my focus but it wasn't working.

"Holden, are you okay?" Noah asked.

       "I'm fine," I said.

"Are you sure?" Noah asked. "Because you're driving kind of slow."

"Sorry, my vision is just blurry at times," I said. "It happens."

My head was starting to hurt a bit as well, so I drove a bit further before deciding to pullover on the side of the road. We were driving on a more quiet road, so not too many cars were passing by.

Once the truck stopped, I told the twins I just had to step outside to get some fresh air. However, I almost stumbled while getting out of the truck since I didn't have the greatest sense of direction right now.

"Holden, are you okay to drive us back?" Julian asked.

"How else will we get back?" I asked.

"I can drive us," Julian offered.

"No way," I said. "You're not driving us. You only have your L. If the cops pull us over..."

"I don't see why the would randomly pull us over," Julian said. "Especially if I'm following all the rules and the speed limits. And I know a shortcut where we take a road not normally used by anyone. It's either that or we call Mom and Dad to come pick us up."

"No," I said. "I don't want to be in the same car as them."

"Well, it's either we call them, or Julian drives," Noah said.

I sighed. "Fine, you can drive. Just... Be careful."

"Don't worry, I'm a good driver," Julian said. "Just because I have my learner's, it doesn't mean I'm the worst driver in the world."

I hadn't even been in a vehicle with either of the twins while they practiced driving, so I didn't know how good of a driver either of them were. But I really couldn't drive right now and I just wanted to get home, so Julian and I switched spots so he could drive us the remainder of the way home.

Julian, thankfully, really was a careful driving. I wasn't paying too much attention though since my head was still hurting a lot. I shouldn't have agreed to watch the movie with them since I was still a bit too sensitive to loud noises and the movie was a bit too loud.

It didn't take long for Julian to reach the shortcut he was talking about. The road was a bit bumpy and curvy, but if it got us home fast without a police stopping us to find out Julian was driving when he shouldn't be, then I wasn't going to protest.
