Chapter 47
Shaw
I never knew how hard it was raising a baby even though I had three kids. However, they never stayed with me overnight until they could sleep through the night. I did want to move in with Kendra when the twins were born so I could help overnight but she was a teenager living with her dad, and her dad hated my guts.
He didn't want me anywhere near her but he couldn't stop me. He was just able to stop me from going into the house.
Gibson cried a lot during the night. And I do mean a lot. He either needed something to eat or he wanted to snuggle with someone, mostly Holden. It was like he didn't want to be left in the crib alone. I didn't blame him. He was left just laying in a bow alone. He may be a baby, but that was going to emotionally scar him.
I didn't ge much sleep during the night. Gibson and Holden were both still sleeping, but Lucian and Mercy decided to wake up and create a lot of noise in the kitchen. I got out of bed, leaving the bedroom and quietly closing the door behind me before heading to the kitchen. "Must you two make a lot of noise?" I asked.
"Yes," Mercy said as she was pouring some milk into a bowl of cereal. "We're hungry."
"Okay, but I don't see how you being hungry has anything to do with you being way too loud," I said. "There's a sleeping baby in the room right there?"
"Really?" Mercy asked sarcastically before leaving the kitchen with her bowl and a spoon to head to the table. "I never would have guessed that. Could have fooled me."
"What's up with you?" I asked.
"Nothing," Mercy muttered, but I didn't believe her. She didn't get all moody for no reason.
I walked to the table and sat down beside her, pushing her bowl of cereal away from her.
"Hey, I was eating that," Mercy said. "Now the cereal is going to get soggy."
"Then you better answer the quesiton fast," I said. "What's wrong?"
"I told you, nothing," Mercy said.
"Does this have to do with Gibson?" I asked and when Mercy didn't reply, it was confirmation enough. "You know I'm not going to completely forget about you and your brothers just because Holden and I took Gibson in, right?"
"How would I know?" Mercy asked. "I thought you were happy with me, Lucian, and Castiel. But then you and Holden decided to randomly decide to adopt a baby without asking us."
Holden and I didn't tell the kids exactly how Gibson came into our life. In retrospect, it would have been better if we did tell them right away.
I pushed the cereal bowl back in front of Mercy so she could start eating. "Holden and I didn't just randomly go to an adoption agency if that's what you're thinking," I said as Mercy started eating.
Before I continued, I looked in the kitchen to see Lucian also getting himself a bowl of cereal. He then brought it to the table as well, sitting down.
"Lucian, how do you feel about Gibson?" I asked, and his only reply was a shrug. "It's okay. Whatever you say, I won't get mad."
"Well... It feels like you're starting a new family with Holden and forgetting about us," Lucian said.
I could even feel my heart breaking when he said that. "That would never happen. You are our family. Holden and I are your dads no matter what happens, okay? We would never start a family without you and we would never forget about you."
