Fatal Lies [#wattys2018]

||Prologue||

17 years ago....

The street was awfully quiet.No stray dogs or cats. No sign of life. The lights on the Porches of houses on the street had gone out, only one stray of light could be seen coming from the upstairs window of the only mansion on the street.
The wind's whistle through the trees was interrupted by the sound of an engine coming down the street in full speed.
The engine came to a sudden halt some meters away from the Mansion and a tall beautiful woman with wavey chestnut hair jumped out of the drivers seat. Although beautiful wasn't the word to describe her current state because her eyes were puffy,her hair fell loosely from the bun she had obviously tried to re-do and her nose was red from all the tissues she had been using to blow her nose from. One could say it was the weather but if you took a closer look at her you would have said she had been crying.
The woman stopped and turned around to look at the same way she had come as if waiting for someone to suddenly appear out of nowhere. As if making up her mind not to wait anymore she dashed into the house and up the stairway, taking two step at a time. On reaching the landing, she made her way hurriedly to the room that the only stray of light was coming from.
"Maria, have you done what I asked of you? ", the woman asked coming face to face with the maid. " Yes ma'am, packed two baffle bags, one for you and one for the girls ", she said holding out two bags to the woman. The woman took both bags and started out the room followed closely by the maid. " Uh, ma'am, may I ask where you and the girls are going ", the asked out of curiosity. " I don't know Maria, anywhere away from this town will be just fine ", the woman sighted.  Having reached the floor, they made their way to a even bigger room which seem to belong to the" Girls ".
" Take the other one and follow closely behind, I don't want him to know that I took the girls with me Maria ", the woman said as she picked up one of the sleeping baby.
At that very moment, the sound of another engine could be heard as it speeded down the same road the woman had just came from. " He's here", the woman gasped, holding the baby close to her. "What will I do Maria, if he finds out I'm taking the girls he'll be furious"." Ma'am you don't have to take both of them, leave the other one and come back for her later", the maid said looking determined. "I will take care of her until your return for her"." I cannot do that Maria, it's like abounding both of them", the woman whispered, tears starting to form in her eyes and slipping down. The doors of the engine slammed."I promise you ma'am I will guard her with my life", the maid whispered back holding the woman's hands. " I will distract him, you take the other one and get out of here as fast as you can".With that the maid carried the other baby and went up the stairs.
"Maria,I'm home", a man's voice came from the door obviously he didn't know there was another person in the house. " Where are my girls? "." We are up here sir", the maid replied from upstairs. The man made his way up the stairs.
The woman counted all the footfalls until she was sure he couldn't see her then made her way out of the room and out the door as quickly as she had come in.
She put the sleeping baby in its car seat and strapped her in. Throwing the bags on the passenger seat she started the engine and took one last look at the mansion, "Goodbye my Jenny, I promise you I will come back for you", she whispered as a tear rolled down from her tear filled eyes.
