Girl Mechanic by JellOfAllTrades
Chapter 4"And after we had cookies she showed me her remote controlled cars that she said they built and sometimes use to compete with!" Suzie said almost dreamily to Ronnie after their second class that Wednesday morning.
"Suzie, you've told me that story a thousand times now," Ronnie complained,"I know you find Levi fascinating but I'm getting sick of you repeating that to me over and over again."
"It's just... She's just so damn awesome!" Suzie exclaimed, unable to hid her optimism for her new found friend.
"And Dylan?" Ronnie crossed her arms. "You've forgotten about him?"
"Of course not." Suzie said defiantly, her heart aching at the memory of Dylan and Anna.
"So what are you gonna do about it?" Ronnie asked, continuing the walk to their third class.
"I don't know." Suzie felt her good mood sliding down at the mention of her cheating ex-boyfriend. "He was so sweet and caring that I never doubted him for a second."
"Maybe Anna forced herself on him?" Ronnie suggested, reaching their classroom.
"Even if she did, Dylan should have still said no."
They took their seats on the middle row, beside the windows. Not too near the board and not too far, like the way Ronnie wants it, and beside the windows so when times of boredom hits Suzie, she can always look out.
Class started as soon as their professor entered the classroom and easy at it may seem for the two of them, Suzie is actually having difficulty focusing on the lecture thinking about Dylan and Levi. It was a great relief for her when she passed (although barely), their quiz after the lesson.
"How's the quiz?" Ronnie asked after their professor left the room.
"Hard." Suzie grumbled. "I can't focus with Dylan and Levi running around inside my head."
"Why's Levi in your head? Shouldn't it be Dylan you're more concerned about right now?"
"Oh, I don't know." Suzie sighed. "She's there, what can I do about it?"
"You know, I honestly think this Levi fellow is a bad influence on you."
"How could you say that?"
"See!" Ronnie exclaimed. "Normally you'd side with me when I criticize people because I'm always right, now you're defying me because of her."
Suzie knew Ronnie's right. The girl is simply a great judge of character and when she says a girl's a bitch even though they seem angelic, give them a few weeks and they'll eventually show their true colors. Suzie always believed what her best friend would say about other people.
"I can assure you that Levi's a great person."
"A girl who puts signs on her door that is usually seen on the lady's comfort room?" Ronnie rolled her eyes. "C'mon Suzie, we know you can do better than that."
"You're just saying that because you haven't met her yet." Suzie replied. "Levi didn't even ask about what I'm being frustrated about last Friday when it clearly wasn't just the car breaking down."
"Oh yeah? Then why did she tell you she thinks the two of you are gonna be great friends and will be visiting each other's houses in the future? Don't you find that weird?"
"Levi's just too frank, that's all." Suzie shrugged.
"Why are you---oh, I get it!" Ronnie mused. "You have a crush on her!"
"What?!" Suzie shook her head no. "How could you say that!"
"Damsel in distress? Knight in shining armor?" Ronnie teased. "You said you were having the worst day of your life and then suddenly she shows up with her, what did you call them? Piercing grey eyes and magical toolbox that got your car fixed in minutes."
"I did not say that!" Suzie rejected. "And her toolbox isn't magical!"
"Oh my, if you could only see yourself now." Ronnie laughed. "You look like a kid who got caught eating cookies in the cookie jar and denies it even if there are chocolate on your teeth."
Suzie remembered how Levi smiled with chocolate smeared on her front tooth and how she attempted to wipe it away clean with tissue, only making matters worst.
"The fact that you're smiling to yourself and blanking out on me tells me it's true." Ronnie waved her hand in front of Suzie's face to wake her up from her daydream.
"What's true?"
"That you have a crush on Levi Mariano."
"I do not!"
"Yeah, right." Ronnie took out her cell phone and checked the text message she just received. "Look, Suzie, I just got a text from Athena. They want me in the club room ASAP."
"Uhm, okay. I'll just go to the canteen. I'll wait for you there."
"I think I won't make it out anytime soon. It seems important." Ronnie looked apologetic. "I'm sorry, Suzie."
"It's okay." Suzie smiled although the idea of her eating alone in the canteen seems depressing.
"Thanks, bestie! I'll make it up to you next time!" Ronnie hugged Suzie before rushing off.
Suzie absentmindedly crossed the courtyard towards the canteen thinking about what Ronnie said. The idea of her having a crush on another girl seems unlikely, she's as straight as a meter stick could ever be. No one, not even an awesome girl like that of Levi Mariano can bend her.
"Suzie?"
Suzie turned to the sound of the voice and her eyes widened at the sight of Levi Mariano's jet black hair, piercing grey eyes and toothy grin.
"Levi?" She asked, quite surprised to see the girl in her university. "What are you doing here?"
"I study here!" Levi said, looking excited. "I'm over at the engineering department."
Suzie stopped. "You're in engineering?"
"Mechanical." Levi beamed. "And you?"
"Accountancy."
Levi nodded. Four guys, probably her friends arrived at Levi's back.
"Dude, care to introduce us to your friend?" One of them said, tapping Levi on the shoulder.
"Yeah right. Guys, this is Suzanne Martinez." Levi introduced. "Suzie, these are my friends, Paul, Johnny, Allan and Dominic."
As Levi introduced her friends, all who seems to be nice, Suzie's mind has already taken flight to what Ronnie said earlier about the possibility of her having a crush on Levi Mariano.
She felt her heart skipped a beat as Levi flashed her toothy grin. The way she feeels so flustered at the girl's intense grey eyes that seems to be probing her soul and how she's mesmerized by her quirky, optimistic and boyish attittude. Suzie had felt this feelings before but back then it was for her suitor, Dylan, who eventually turned out to be a cheating boyfriend.
Yes, there's no denying it. Suzanne Martinez has a crush on Levi Mariano.
