„Honey, it's time to get ready for school!"
Wonwoo turned his head to face his mom, groaning as he pulled up the blanket to cover his bare chest.
„Yeah, I don't think I can go today, mom. I feel really sick", he mumbled, hiding his face under his blanket.
His mother stood next to his bed with her arms crossed under her chest, as she rolled her eyes back.
„Nice try, honey, but I'm not keeping you at home this time. Look, I know school sucks and the people there suck aswell, but you've been at home the whole last week and I know exactly that you didn't really have a fever, so, please, just get out of bed and try to get through this day, okay?", she said softly and smiled halfway while she stroked his hair before she left her son's room.
Wonwoo sighed. His mom was right and he knew, but „just getting through the day" wasn't especially an easy task for him, sometimes.
He sat up and breathed in, he took some time to get used to the sunlight shining through his window before he stood up and made his way to the bathroom.
He closed the door behind him and started brushing his teeth. After he was done, he stared into the mirror, sighing loudly at his own reflection. He brushed through his hair with his thin fingers and whispered to himself, „Just get through this day"
He threw on some clothes, took his backpack, grabbed his phone and a water bottle and rushed down the stairs.
„I'm leaving!", Wonwoo shouted through the house so his mother would hear him and he shut the door behind him.
-
„Wonwoo-ya! You're back? How are you feeling? Are you okay?"
Wonwoo smiled slightly at his concerned friend Soonyoung, who was leaning against the lockers.
„Yeah, I think I'll be okay, hyung. My mom wouldn't let me stay at home any longer, so I didn't really have any other chance than to go back to hell", he said with a small smile on his face.
Soonyoung laughed and patted the younger boy's shoulder.
As Wonwoo was looking for something inside his locker, he felt other students' gazes on him. He dropped his smile and looked around, feeling extremely uncomfortable.
It wasn't anything new. For Wonwoo, it would be a miracle if one day at school would pass without anyone staring at him with those eyes, giving him that look. He hated nothing more than that look.
He shut his locker loudly and turned around to face his friend, who pulled him after himself.
„I really missed you, Wonwoo-ya, it was really boring without you here", he said and pouted at Wonwoo, who just laughed at him.
-
„Can anyone tell me what the sum of this equation is?"
Wonwoo was busy trying to keep his eyes open as he lazily stretched out his hand into the air, followed by the maths teacher nodding towards him.
„It's 42", he mumbled sleepily and his teacher nodded, „That is correct"
Wonwoo felt someone on the right side of the classroom stare at him but he decided to ignore it.
Soonyoung's phone screen lit up and he quickly shielded it with his hands so only he could read the message.
„I'm on your floor right now. Want to excuse yourself for two minutes? Or maybe five or.. ten? I'm waiting for you at our place"
Soonyoung smiled and bit his lip as he responded with „on my way". He raised his hand until he got the teacher's attention.
„Yes, Soonyoung-ssi?"
„May I go to the toilet, please?"
„Of course", the teacher said with a monotone voice and turned around to face the black board again.
Soonyoung quickly went to leave the classroom and he rushed through the hallway towards the music room. He happily sighed as he heard someone play the piano inside and he opened the door.
-
„Wonwoo-ssi!"
Wonwoo's eyes fluttered open at the loud noise made by his teacher, who was standing in front of his desk with an angry expression on her face.
„You can sleep at home, but not in school and especially not in my lesson. If I catch you sleeping in my class one more time, you'll get detention for a month! Do you understand?"
„Yes, I do", he mumbled with his head lowered.
She went back to her desk angrily and Wonwoo felt the same person on the right eyeing him again.
The door swung open and Soonyoung stepped into the classroom, fixing his collar and catching his breath.
He went back to his place next to Wonwoo and the younger boy looked at him with confused eyes.
„Where were you?", Wonwoo asked while yawning.
Soonyoung's heart began to race.
„I-I was just on the toilet, why are you asking?"
„Oh, okay. I'm just asking because I think I was asleep when you left.."
Soonyoung touched his friend's arm. „Hey, you didn't sleep again last night, didn't you?"
Wonwoo looked down and slowly shook his head, „I think I slept for 30 minutes or so. I had a difficult night.. again"
The older boy sighed and rubbed the other's arm to comfort him, before the bell rang and everyone packed their bags to leave for lunch break.
While Soonyoung was busy packing his bag, Wonwoo put his books away until he saw the person that had stared at him the whole lesson approach him.
„Hyung, could you come with me for a second?"
Wonwoo looked up at Kim Mingyu, the most popular kid in school with the infamous nickname „rich boy", who was smiling brightly down at him.
„Sure", the older boy mumbled awkwardly and they went to the back of the classroom.
„I'm bad at maths, you know that, hyung, and I get tutoring in maths already, but my teacher isn't that good and he costs a lot of money. You see, I don't want my parents spending a ton of money on me because I just don't feel comfortable with it. So.. I noticed you're really good at maths. Even though you were half asleep today, you still got the right answer. Listen, I know you don't really talk to anyone except for Soonyoung hyung and that Hansol kid, and I know you don't really like me. But still, I was wondering if you could, you know.. maybe help me out a little? You'd get paid, of course"
Mingyu looked down at Wonwoo while he bit his lip and awaited an answer.
Wonwoo's eyes wandered up and met Mingyu's, but he quickly looked away.
„Uh, I'm not really sure, I-I don't think this would be a good idea-"
„Please, hyung", Mingyu begged with pleading eyes.
„I-I'm sorry, Mingyu", Wonwoo muttered under his breath and went to grab his things before he left with Soonyoung.
Mingyu sighed, looking at the classroom door, which just got shut by Wonwoo,
„I see, Jeon Wonwoo, you're a hard one to crack, but I won't give up just yet, because..
..I always get what I want"
