SAVING a friend

The past month has been amazing. Yuri has been focusing less on me and more on her studies and reading manga, which is good for her. She stopped cutting herself too! It took a lot of convincing and bandages to fix that. Natsuki had improved her cooking living with me, and we even started training for both of us to be better fighters. Since her dad was still in the game, she could be happy. Then we come to Sayori... where do I begin? She is SO much happier now, as not only is she my girlfriend, but she is also living with me. I used to live with myself as I moved away from my parents, but now I live with Sayori, Natsuki and Yuri. Sayori sleeps in my room while Yuri and Natsuki sleep in the guest room. She also writes poems for me all the time. Overall, things have been great! But... something feels off... like I'm forgetting somebody. Oh yeah... Monika... I forgot about her over this whole time period. I knew she was kinda bonkers and insane, but I kinda miss her. We talked about her several times, but none of us knew what to do. She was gone. When the game was deleted, she was deleted with it, but we knew we had to do something. That's when I realized something: Even if you delete the game, the data still remains, so I just reinstall the game and get Monika out. I got the pc set up, headed straight to Steam and reinstalled the game. After it was done, we launched the game. Instead of the title screen greeting us, it was a black void. Nothing could be seen anywhere, except for one person facing away from us, their body glitching and twitching. We all knew this was Monika. We set the monitor flat on the ground as Yuri tied a rope around my waist.

"Be careful Jack!" Sayori told me as she hugged me tightly. I lifted her head and kissed her.

"Don't worry. If anything happens, you can pull me out. Just a heads up: I'll do anything to get Monika back, so things may get kinda frisky." I said, Sayori turning bright red. I kissed her one last time before I slid into the monitor, entering the void. As I slid in, I felt cold and alone. No longer was I in my world, nor was I in the world of Doki Doki Literature Club: I was in nothingness. Limbo to some. Eternity to others. I stared at the figure in front of me. It had to be Monika. She is the only one who could survive the game being deleted and reinstalled. I called out to her.

"Monika! It's me, Taro!" She turned around to reveal she was broken. She was a mish mash of other character sprites. A bit of Natsuki there, a tad of Yuri there. The only part of her still there was her ponytail, but even then it was still surrounded by red, green and blue squares, showing the texture was unstable.  When she spoke, her voice was glitchy and distorted. It skipped like a scratched dvd at times too.

"What do you want? You got your happy ending without me. Why are you back?" She asked, clearly hurt. Hearing her say that hurt me. I didn't want to hurt her. I just wanted what was best for Sayori.

"I'm here to get you out of here. We all miss you Monika. We all want you back." I told her. She appeared right in front of me, her appearance changing between each girl as she talked about each one.

"Really!? Well Natsuki never really liked me to begin with, Yuri was just plain bonkers, and Sayori was too busy looking at you all day to notice me! Why would they care about me?! Especially YOU... I loved you and you deleted me! Why didn't you love me back?" She reverted back to her glitchy look as I pushed Yuri's hair out of her eyes. I gripped her shoulders and looked into her eyes, even though one was Yuri and the other was Sayori.

"Monika... I DO love you, just not the way you love me. You were my happiness. I wasn't thinking when I did what I did. I just wanted to keep Sayori safe. I love you like a sister. You and Sayori were always there when I needed someone to talk to. You and Sayori cared about me more than anybody. I mean, I'd love to date you, but Sayori and I are going steady." That's when Sayori's voice came over the void.

"Umm... I'm okay with an open relationship, if that's what's going on. As long as Jack's happy, I'm happy." I smiled as I looked back to Monika. She smiled.

"I've changed during my time here. I realized I was being selfish wanting you for myself. I let my obsession consume me, and I wanted you for myself. I even thought about killing my friends to have you myself. I don't want to be that person anymore. I care about your happiness, as well as all of my friends. I want to be someone deserving of having those friends... deserving of having you..." she began to cry. I turned to Sayori and she gave me a nod of "go ahead. Kiss her". I turned to Monika and placed my lips on hers. They tasted like Sayori's lips. Midway through the kiss, her lips changed into something else. We parted, seeing Monika smiling, her original face smiling back at me. Slowly, her original form was restored.

"You really mean it, don't you? You really do love me, even after everything I've done. You don't know how much that... thank you. If you really want me to return, I'll go back with you. I really did love you, and I still do with all my heart." Monika said as I held the side of her face with my hand, tears flowing from her eyes. I held Monika close as I tugged on the rope as the others started to pull us out. We reentered the real world, Monika's face lighting up seeing the real world for the first time. We set foot on the floor as we put the computer monitor back on my desk. Monika looked at me.

"So this is the real you... I wouldn't have you any other way." She said happily as I pulled her in for a kiss. After we separated, Sayori kissed me longer. After that, I brought all the girls in for a group hug. Everyone was finally happy. Nothing could ruin this.
