I woke in bed with Monika next to me. Sayori was gone, but she left a note. It read:
"Jack, I woke up early and I didn't want to disturb you or Monika, so I'm downstairs. Come join me if you wake up.
Sayori."
I very gently moved away from Monika and walked downstairs to see Sayori on the couch, eating cereal. She saw me and smiled. I made some toast and sat down next to her. I wrapped my arm around her as she started to whisper talk.
"So... this isn't working." She said. I felt my heart shatter. I can't believe she's breaking up with me.
"Monika and I talked yesterday and she just wants to be friends. She'd rather see you happy and just friends than see you stress out and date her." Monika... she actually HAS changed. The old Monika would NEVER do that. I walked back upstairs and into my room. Monika was still asleep. I quietly made my way over to the bed and kissed her forehead.
"Thanks Monika. You really have changed. I'll always love you like a sister." I said, walking out the door. Unbeknownst to me, Monika started crying tears of happiness under the covers. I made my way back downstairs as Sayori was eating my toast.
"Sayori! That was my toast!" I told her. She looked at me with puppy dog eyes.
"But it looked so good and it was getting cold..." No matter how hard I tried, I couldn't stay mad at her for long. I walked over, putting my cute pink girl from heaven in a headlock and gave her a noogie.
"Hey! Cut it out! It's not funny!" I continued to noogie her, thinking it was funny. I looked at her face to see that dead, blank expressionless face from before stareing back at me. I screamed before falling off the couch, releasing Sayori. She came to my side.
"Jack, are you okay?" She asked, worried. I couldn't keep this a secret anymore. I started to cry. Through my sobs, I shook my head no. She hugged me tight.
"You saw my hanging face again, didn't you?" She asked. I was suprised. How did she know?
"How did you know?" I asked, still crying my eyes out.
"Monika told me. It's okay Jack. You don't have to worry anymore. I burned it yesterday. I'll never think about doing that ever again. I love you too much to do that to you." Without thinking, I kiss her. She burned the noose. She won't be taken away from me like that. I'm over the moon right now. My nightmares of losing Sayori are over. I separated from Sayori and stared into her eyes, tears fading. She looked at me with compassion in her eyes and genuine love in her smile.
"I love you Sayori." I sobbed out, giving her the biggest hug ever. I looked over to see Yuri, Natsuki and Monika standing next to the couch, on the verge of tears themselves.
"I think we'll be just fine. You guys go ahead. I'll comfort Jack until he feels better." I heard Sayori tell the others, but I didn't care. I stayed in Sayori's arms until I felt better. At that point, we got ready for school and joined the other girls walking to school.
(At school)
At school, we went to our classes like normal, pretty normal day up until we saw the poster for the dance. This time since I was only dating Sayori, the choice was easy.
"Sayori, would you go to winter formal with me?" She instantly nodded her head yes. The others would go as a group of friends. In the club, Sayori handed me a poem she wrote me. It read:
"A girl far away,
split by a screen,
crying digital tears,
too dirty to clean. Then a boy came into her life,
turned her around.
He changed her face,
to a smile from a frown. They loved each other
ever since they were two.
You know who those people were?
They were me and you."I turned to Sayori, tears in my eyes. She looked at me with a smile on her face. I tried expressing how I felt through words, but I broke down crying. Sayori just hugged me. I knew I was going to be with Sayori forever. Not a doubt in my mind.
