The day of the dance has finally arrived, and Sayori went with Monika and Yuri to pick out her dress, leaving me with Natsuki at home. She was cooking cupcakes for the party after the dance... twelve hours away. Yeah... maybe that wasn't the smartest idea. I slowly sat up out of my computer chair and headed downstairs, smelling the cupcakes Natsuki was cooking. Entering the kitchen, I saw Natsuki pulling some fresh cupcakes out of the oven. She looked a lot better than she did when the girls first got here. Originally, she was pale, thin and very small. Her father wasn't feeding her at all, as well as physically abusing her daily. That I knew. I wish he was still here so I could give that bastard a piece of my mind. Anyway, she looks much better now. She's grown a few inches, her skin and hair look healthier and she's not skin and bone anymore. She turned and looked at me, a smile on her face.
"Oh, hey Jack! What's going on?" She asked, setting the cupcakes on the stove to cool. Her body filled out nicely instead of skin and bone. I smiled.
"Nothing much. You look so much better than before!" I said. Natsuki scrunched up her face, clearly annoyed.
"Are you saying I was ugly?! You baka!" She yelled, waving her arms up and down. I grabbed her arms and held her still.
"Easy, Tsundere queen. I mean you're filling out from the... uh... ather-fay's buse-ay." I said, smiling. Natsuki's face turned red as she tried waving her arms again.
"Tsundere queen!? Come on man! That's a terrible nickname and a bad pun!" She grumbled. I chuckled.
"Look, chill out! I'm just saying I'm happy your feeling better." I said. Natsuki calmed down and looked at me.
"Oh... thanks!" She said, smiling. We walked out of the kitchen as I sat on the couch. Natsuki went upstairs and came back with an armful of manga. She sat next to me as I took a volume of Dragon Ball Super from the stack, smiling. Despite being a country boy in the middle of West Virginia, I can still read manga.
"Manga is literature!" We said at the same time, opening our books and beginning to read.
(Later)
I finished my volume of Dragon ball Super, putting it down next to me. Natsuki was still reading, so I poked her cheek.
"Boop." I said. She didn't react. I poked her again. This time, she glanced at me and smiled, tackling me to the floor. We rolled around on the floor before I pushed her off, laughing. We laughed harder than ever. When Natsuki stopped laughing, she looked down. I could tell from her face that she was blushing. But why though? I crawled closer.
"Nats? You okay?" I asked. Her blush began to grow more and more as I got closer. Suddenly, she looked at me and smiled.
"SNEAK ATTACK!" She yelled, tackling me again. We rolled around some more on the ground for about thirty seconds before I pushed her off me and dart into the kitchen. Natsuki quickly ran after me, so I hid behind the dining room table. After a minute, the room went quiet. I peeked my head from behind the table and scanned the room. Without warning, Natsuki smashed some frosting on my face. It wasn't a lot, only covering my left cheek. I wiped the frosting as Natsuki started running again. Okay. She's not getting away with this. I chase her into the living room and tackle her once more, pinning her by her wrists to the wall. She starts laughing again.
"Of course you realize this means war." I said, trying to sound like Snake Plissken or something like that. She continued laughing as I tried holding my laughter in. She then playfully kneed me in the stomach. It felt like getting kicked by a marshmallow, but I acted like it knocked the wind out of me. She reversed the situation, spinning me around and pinning me to the wall. Her arms were on either side of my head. She smiled wide, a cocky look on her face, but that quickly faded. She blushed again and backed away. I did what I normally did when we did this.
"OH, HORRORS! YOU'VE SLAIN ME!" I collapsed on the floor dramatically. "I am defeated! Slain by the hands of the warrior princess Natsuki! Oh, the humiliation!" I said, face buried in the carpet. Natsuki didn't respond. I looked up at her. She was sitting in the bend of the couch. She was still blushing, this time harder than before. "Natsuki? C'mon, talk to me here. What's going on?" I asked. She tried to speak, but couldn't find the words. Instead, she took the spare notepad in the storage box of the couch and began writing with a pen. I tilted my head in confusion. She finished writing and turned it around so I could see, biting the top corner.
I stared at the writing in the book. I kinda knew she did, but I never paid it any attention. I assume all the girls feel this way about me, but kept it bottled up so Sayori and I could be happy. I made my way over to her, sitting next to her.
"There. I said it!" She said, flustered. She slammed the book on the floor. Tears slowly trickled down her face. I wrapped my arm around her. She trembled and sniffed in my arms. I wrapped my other arm around her and hugged her tight. It was only now that I realized how small she really was. She broke down in my arms and squeezed me tighter.
"It's okay, Natsuki. I'm here." I said, petting her hair. She sniffled again.
"I always have, you know. Ever since you saved us. Sayori's a lucky girl." She said, still crying. I wiped the tears from her face.
"I love you too Natsuki. Like a close friend to another that they've known all their life." I said, caressing her face. I did the only thing I could think of to make her feel better.
We kissed for what felt like hours. When we parted, she was smiling. She playfully punched my arm.
"Y-you dummy! You know exactly how to make me feel better!" She said. Yep. She's back to normal. I smiled and gave her a noogie.
"Not a word about this to the others, okay?" I said, chuckling. Natsuki squirmed in my arms.
"Aah! Alright! Alright! I'll keep quiet!" She squealed. I released her and she pouted as adorably as possible. She ran off to the kitchen, no doubt working on the cupcakes again. I began upstairs, but I stopped and looked out the window. An old man in a suit was stareing into the window from outside. Who is that guy? I know whoever he is, he must be trying to freak us out on purpose or some other reason. I made my way back to my room, where I grabbed my suit and hung it on the back of my door before falling on my bed to take a nap.
