Vigor refers to the active force of a living being's mind or body and their capacity to exert it in various ways in life. Often it is seen as a life force by the common people.Principle
Vigor represents the energy produced by all living bodies, vital for survival. In everyday life, it equates to a being's stamina, as such it is expended by strenuous activity, and replenished by food, rest, and living in a healthy environment.
In antiquity, vigor was thought of as a mystical spark of existence unique to living things that animates them and gives them metaphysical attributes like their soul or consciousness. In modern times, vigor is usually has a more physical or mechanistic explanation.
For most physical living beings, vigor takes on the form of electric current being produced by biological cells and tissues (or nanbots and wiring for sythenthics) and generates an overall electrical potential. A portion of this is the basal metabolic rate, the minimum rate of energy expended at rest just to keep the vital organs and life processes going. The remainder of a being's life force is produced to remain active through movement and exercise, also known as stamina.
Along with vigor, magic power is also stored within the body and psychic power from the mind. While they are generally considered seperate, magic and psychic power can influence and greatly enhance the bodies stamina by boosting the electrical impulses the body can generate and reinforcing the structural tissues. This enhanced stamina can be used to exert much more force or withstand much more trauma or fatigue than normal. The same mechanism applies to spirits as well, only psychic energy takes the place of electrical in their case.
It is even possible to feel the presence of this large electrical potential as an aura emanating from the body and has been described as feeling like a warm, viscous fluid at rest. It has also been said that powerful, refined auras produce a sensation that feels akin to static shocks on the skin. When an individual harnesses their vitality, their bodies electrical potential dramatically increases, often radiating sparks of electricity when high enough.
Chakra
Chakras are large nexuses of metaphysical or biophysical energy within the body. There are seven main chakras, which align with the back for most beings, starting from the base of the spine through to the crown of the head.
These swirling wheels of energy correspond to massive nerve centers in the body. Each of the seven main chakras contains bundles of nerves and major organs and corresponds with psychological, emotional, and spiritual states of being. If there is a blockage, energy cannot flow.
Each chakra has a purpose and deals with a different concept or aspect of the mind. As such, each one can be opened and closed depending on a given individual's state of mind. When a chakra is open, vigor/psychic/magical energy is free to flow about the body, whereas the flow is restricted when the chakra is sealed. The chakras must be opened in a specific order, or the energy will not be able to flow.
Applications
Living things can consciously utilize their life energy for a variety of purposes. Typically stamina is the portion of vigor that can be used for activity, regardless of whether it is chemical or psychic energy converted to work.
Movement and physical exercises are the most basic uses for a being to expend their stamina. Exercise in particular can increase overall fitness which can increase overall vigor overtime.
Martial Arts are systems of combat that also expend stamina to be performed. Martial arts can also be the method to further development of personal vigor and its applications. Other than meditation, martial arts have been the most useful and practical stepping stone for those who later learn more advanced applications of their vigor.
Qigong is a holistic set of practices designed to cultivate and balance the vigor within the body. Primarily, qigong consists of series of coordinated body posture and movement, breathing, and meditation used for health, spirituality, and martial arts training.
Neijing is applying a being's vigor through martial arts to perform supernormal feats and abilities. It can take two forms: internal, where the person uses increases their bio-electric potential to buff their own body allowing them to jump farther, hit harder, and run faster; or external, typically projecting their bodies' electrical impulses through the air.
Certain psychic phenomena produced by psychics and spirits also draws from their stamina to perform.
A/N: Its me again, to talk about another power called vigor. Those that are aware of chi/ki/aura/haki in video games and shonen manga likely know this concept. It the Arcane Realm version of the exaggerated model use to explain the active principle of living things
