Psi can be defined as phenomena produced by psychokinetic energy that can manipulate matter or events. Psi or psychic phenomena is one of the biggest subjects of study in parapsychology.
Psychokinetic Energy
Psychokinetic Energy, PK, psychic energy describes the energy that makes psi possible. PK is produced by the mind of a creature, whether it is from a physical brain, computer, or subtle matter.
PK as a force is sympathetic to electromagnetism. As such the presence of PK in the mind is partially what allows individuals to harness and amplify their electrical potential in Neijing techniques.
While PK is most abundant in realms where spirits are the major inhabitants, it can be found in the everyday world too. Pretty much anything that can be called psi involves psychic energy.
ESP
Extrasensory Perception or ESP is simply gaining information about things not with physical senses, but through mental activity.
Unlike ordinary senses, ESP has virtually unlimited range, and it's experienced mainly as thoughts rather than bodily sensations. Those that can use ESP are called espers. A variety of psychic abilities fall under ESP.
Telepathy
Telepathy is the ability to read thoughts from another mind. There are two catergories for that specific abilties and variants fall under:
Telepathic Communication, which is the ability to transmit information from one mind to another, and Telepathic Perception, which is the ability to receive information from another mind.
More advanced telepathy can grow into forms of mental manipulation such as projecting thoughts or memories, inhibiting others, or relay between multiple minds.
Empathy
Psi empathy is the ability to fully
interpret and replicate the emotions, moods, and temperaments of others. Empaths can discover hidden emotions or attack someone in a personal and emotional way since they know exactly what emotion is flowing through themselves and can use this knowledge to play against them. Some users may learn to read emotional imprints left into environment or objects.Usually over time, a dedicated Empath's power grows to the point that they can manipulate emotions on others, and possibly use them to empower themselves. The user may learn to extend their power over/on vast number of sentient beings or reach extreme distances, even other levels of existence but this may be possible only if the user has emotional link to those they search already in effect.
Clairvoyance
Clairvoyance or remote viewing is the ability to gain direct visual information through non-physical means.
A clairvoyant can gain a direct visual information about an object, person, location or physical event through means other than the user's physical sight and allows them to act when they are unable to use their eyes and allows them to hear things at distances. Clairvoyants over time can also see spiritual beings or perceive the spiritual plane around them.
Clairaudience is a variation which focuses on hearing distant sources or interpreting spiritual activity as sound.
Precognition
Precognition is the ability to perceive future events before they happen. Users have the ability to foresee possible futures and observe what may happen. As knowledge of the future invariably causes that future to change, visions of the future are subject to frequent shifting. While not being able to select futures or travel through time, these visions may assist in possible courses of action.
Retrocognition
Retrocognition is the ability to discern events of the past. The esper can discern past events usually entering a trance while seeing and hearing a noted past event, whether it be concerning themselves or of an unfamiliar lineage in a past occurrence.
Psychometry
Psychometry is the ability to perceive the residual information of an object and/or person via touch.
An esper can obtain historical memories or sensations concerning beings and objects they can observe. With objects they gain the knowledge including the makers, users, and even those who have on passing used the object, and what has been done with it. With living beings or parts of the body the user learns their general life-history, but doesn't gain anything of what they were thinking or feeling.
Psychokinesis
Psychokinesis describes the phenomena of mentally influencing external objects or events with the use of PK energy. Parapsychologists divide psychokinetic phenomena into two categories: macro-psychokinesis - large-scale psychokinetic effects that can be seen with the naked eye, and micro-psychokinesis - small-scale psychokinetic effects that require the use of statistics to be detected.
Telekinesis
Telekinesis is the levitation, movement, or manipulation of physical objects purely with mental activity that syncs with psychic energy. On a basic level, telekinesis involves pushing and pulling whatever the telekinetic sees but can develop into altering an object's inner workings or the very molecules/atoms composing it. The strength of a telekinetic generally depends on their mental capacity and a smaller extent their physical endurance as well.
This is the most common way for spirits to directly exert their stamina in a spirit realm on subtle matter, and more adept spirits can exert enough psychic force to manipulate physical matter as well.
Manifestation
For spirits, manifesting then maintaining a physical form relys on the spirit's stamina. Expending all of their stamina will cause their form to be dispelled and leave the spirit behind in a fatigued state that needs to wait in an object or sacred space to recuperate.
Psi Users
All spirits are capable of ESP and many are able to affect objects with psychokinesis. For corporeal beings, there are individuals of various races that naturally possess or later awaken to psychokinetic energy and harness their psychic abilities.
A/N: This time we enter the realm of the paranormal with psi or psychic phenomena. These are strongly associated with spirits (more on them later) but more solid inhabitants can harness the ability to get a handle of them as well.
