Lastly, I want to go over the most popular forms of leisurely activities. Apparently, the "need to do something for recreation" is an essential element of the biology and psychology of sapient beings.

Recreation is an essential part of life and finds many different forms which are shaped naturally by individual interests but also by the surrounding social atmosphere. Recreational activities can be communal or solitary, active or passive, outdoors or indoors, healthy or harmful, and useful for society or detrimental. A significant amount of recreational activities are hobbies, which are activities done for pleasure on a regular basis. A list of typical activities could be almost endless so I will go over the top three most common worldwide.

Tourism

Taking tours to other places is one of the most popular activities worldwide. Many of the reasons told include aesthetic pleasure of new cities and nature, enjoying foreign cuisine, going to entertainment places, etc. Some cities or  countries even have tourism as their main source of revenue, with the growth in the last three centuries. Mass tourism is common in certain areas of the world more so than others, often cultural centers, tropical beaches, and untamed wilderness.

Recent developments in tourism has also led to new subsets that differ in focus or give more of a purpose to touring. The fastest growing one is the model of sustainable tourism which seeks to mitigate the negative ecological or sociological impacts of tourism development to a destination.

Another is cultural tourism where the focus is on experiencing the locals way of life at your destination. Destinations are often large historical cities with plenty of venues like museums and theaters. There are also trips to rural areas that take place during the traditions of the native locals like rituals and festivals. Travel agencies have filed reports saying that this form of tourism is growing in popularity as more people want to satisfy their cultural needs with new experiences.

Music

In simplest terms, music is a form of art where feelings and emotions are conveyed through sounds. I've yet to find a culture that didn't have some kind of music that they enjoy.

Music, in my opinion, might be one of the best mood adjusters we ever invented. People of all races can not only listen to music to experience feelings, but also to reclaim ones that they've lost touch with. Whether it is a grand concert bringing hominins, henge, faye, and spirits together, or a mother singing a lullaby to lull her baby to sleep, the art form has a psychological power that is not to be underestimated.

Even in antiquity, the power of music was being utilized beyond entertainment. Many rituals had a musical component, and the psychological power I mentioned is key for magic that is cast by music. While magical music is fundamentally capable by anyone with a sense of rhythm, its those who are deeply invested in their craft that have the most profound effects.

So whether you're a upcoming artist, worldwide performer, looking for a trip ease the stress of life, or just looking for something different than on the radio; I suggest getting to know the music of where you travel. Tip a minstrel for a tune or attend a nightime summer festival to experience something on your journey.

Sports

As expected, sports are very popular activities worldwide, with a variety of activities specific to certain cultures or with mass appeal. Most of the popular sports are based in physical athleticism and dexterity but there is growing interesting in non-physical mind sports like chess and eSports.

The competition element of sport, along with the aesthetic appeal of some sports, result in the popularity of people attending to watch sport being played. Both amateur and professional sports attract spectators, both in person at the sport venue, and through broadcast media.

A growing interest within sports are those that incorporate the use of artifices. Sorcery was always a part of competition due to it falling under innate abilities but artifices were another matter. Of course the more of them that enter people's daily lives, the more that people were fine with sports that had players ride on flying besoms for example.

Adventuring

An adventurer is any person who embarks on expeditions or other risky endeavors, often at the behest of a patron or to fulfill a quest. Many adventurers form parties, also known as adventuring groups, that work together across several adventures.

Adventuring was in its heyday in the distant past, where it originated as quests set out by divinities, royals, or nobility. Then many others choose to do so out of ambition and to achieve a social or financial goal, changing it into a career path for those who with competent social, combat, and survivalist skills.

While adventuring had stopped being commonplace for a long length of time, within the last century adventuring has been growing in worldwide recognition to make a comeback. Whether working in a group or traveling solo, these adventures dedicate their lives to fulfilling their clients requests, uncovering ancient secrets, lost artifacts, and general knowledge of the world's most exotic locations and cultures.

While technically a career path, some also consider adventuring an activity to be done in one's leisure time, especially when the stakes are low. A recreational version called adventure traveling is basically exploration or tourist activity that includes physical activity, a cultural exchange, and connection with nature. Adventure travelers have often said their motivation is to experience mental rush or flow, resulting from stepping outside their comfort zone.

On a personal note, as an adventure traveler myself, I personally enjoy experiencing cultures different from my own.
