Continuation of the first type of Qur’an recitation
Yesterday we spoke about the two types of Qur’an recitation with special emphases on the second type of recitation. Today, I will give you a more in depth understanding of the first type of recitation.
Revision:
The first type of recitation is called practical recitation, when performing this type of recitation the Muslim hopes to learn more about the rulings, legislations and prohibitions that Allah has enjoined upon us in the Qur’an.
Evidence:
In Surah Sad ayah 29 Allah say’s: “This is a book which we have revealed to you, full of excellences, that they may reflect over its verses, and that those gifted with understanding may take heed.”
This ayah is basically saying that the Qur’an is full of excellences and that we should reflect on its verses.
In Surah Taha ayah 123-127 Allah say’s:
"But whosoever turns away from My Reminder (i.e. neither believes in this Quran nor acts on its orders, etc.) verily, for him is a life of hardship, and We shall raise him up blind on the Day of Resurrection."
He will say:"O my Lord! Why have you raised me up blind, while I had sight (before)."
(Allah) will say: "Like this, Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) came unto you, but you disregarded them (i.e. you left them, did not think deeply in them, and you turned away from them), and so this Day, you will be neglected (in the Hell-fire, away from Allahs Mercy)."
And thus do We requite him who transgresses beyond bounds (i.e. commits the great sins and disobeys his Lord (Allah) and believes not in His Messengers, and His revealed Books, like this Quran, etc.), and believes not in the Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.) of his Lord, and the torment of the Hereafter is far more severe and more lasting.
These ayah’s are explaining how the Allah has put his proofs, evidence, and lessons in the Qur’an.
In a hadith narrated by Abduallah bin abbas: The prophet Muhammed said “The devil has given up the hope of him being worshipped in your land, but he is pleased to be obeyed in other than that from among your deeds that you belittle. Therefore be aware of his plot! I have indeed left with you two things which if you hold on to them, you hold on to them, you will never go astray: the Book of Allah and the Sunnah of His Prophet.” (from the farewell speech)
I conclude with a hadith narrated by Abu Malik: “The Qur’an is either a proof for or against you”
