Five Nafel Prayers to pray in Ramadan:
We seek to pray as many extra (Sunnah) prayers as we can during the month of Ramadan what better way to do that then praying the Nafel prayers?
So where do you begin? Praying nafel prayers can be a bit of a challenge if you are not accustomed to praying them I have listed five nafel prayers that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) used to pray:
+Salat al Ishraq: Salat al Ishraq or the sunrise prayer is the four raqat Sunnah prayed after the Faijr prayer when the sun has risen.
+Salat al Tahajud: Salat al Tahajud or the night prayer is one of the most rewarded nafel prayer, in fact the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) say’s that there is a special castle in paradise for the Muslims that pray Tahajud. Tahajud consists of a minimum of 2 rakats and a maximum of 8 rakats preformed during the night after getting some rest.
+The four rakats of sunnah before and after the Zuhr prayer
+The four rakat’s of sunnah before the Asr prayer
+Salat al Tawbah: Allah is grants many dua’aa during the month of Ramadan so this is the best time to pray for forgiveness form all your past sins and transgressions.
*Note: all of these nafel can be prayed outside of Ramadan as well, I only mention them here because of the hadith narrated by Ibn Khuzaymah which states that: The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: “Whoever draws near to Allah during it (Ramadan) with a single characteristic from the characteristics of (voluntary) goodness, he is like whoever performs an obligatory act in other times. And whoever performs an obligatory act during it, he is like whoever performed seventy obligatory acts in other times.” Also, please do not delay Salat al Tawbah until Ramadan if you have committed a sin that you want to ask forgiveness for, you don’t know if you will even live to see the next day so pray it right then and there.
Evidence:
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: In Paradise there is a castle reserved for those who read Tahajjud those who pray at night will enter paradise without having to account for their acts in this life.
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: 'He who performs Fajr Salat with Jamaat and remains seated in the same place while engaging in Dhikr until after sunrise and thereafter performs 2 Rakaats Nafil Salat, (Ishraaq), he will obtain the Thawaab of one Hajj and one Umrah.' Narrated by Tirmidhi
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW): Whoever performs the four rakaats before and after the Zuhr salat with constancy, Allah Ta'ala makes the fire of Hell haram (forbidden) for him. Abu Dawud
The Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: "May Allaah have Mercy on the one who offers four (rak'ahs) before 'Asr prayer."Abu Dawud
I conclude with a hadith narrated by Abu Huraira: I heard Allah's Apostle saying regarding Ramadan, "Whoever prayed at night in it (the month of Ramadan) out of sincere Faith and hoping for a reward from Allah, then all his previous sins will be forgiven."
