The rewards of reciting Qur’an in the month of Ramadan

Reciting the Qur’an in or outside of Ramadan can bring many great rewards to a Muslim, but the Prophet Muhammad has specifically spoken about the special rewards of reciting the Qur’an in the month of Ramadan.

Before I delve into the many hadith and ayah’s from the Qur’an speaking about the rewards of reciting the Qur’an during the month of Ramadan, I’m going to inform you of the rewards for reading the Qur’an even if you don’t have a complete grasp on how to read Arabic or don’t know how to read Arabic.

Ibn Mas'oad   narrates that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, "Whoever reads one letter of the Book of Allah is credited with one blessing and one blessing is equal to tenfold the like thereof in its reward. I do not say that الم (Alif Lam Meem) is one letter, but '(ا  )' (Alif) is one letter, ' ( ل )’ (Lam) is one letter, and '( م )' (Meem) is one letter."

Now how about reciting the Qur’an on Ramadan?

'Abdullah Ibn 'Amr narrated that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: "The fast and the Qur'an will intercede for the servant on the Day of Judgement. The fast will say: 'My Lord, I restricted him from food and drink, so allow me to intercede for him.' And the Qur'an will say: 'I prevented him from sleeping at night, so allow me to intercede for him.' So they will be allowed to intercede."

This means that on the Day of Judgment the fast will intercede for the fasting Muslim and the Qur’an will also intercede.

In another hadith the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) describes how the Quran will intercede: 'The Qur'an will be brought on the Day of Judgment as well as the people who used to act upon it. Surat-ul-Baqarah and Aali 'Imran will then approach them. As if they were two clouds or two dark black canopies with light between them both or like two flocks of birds stretching their wings in the air pleading for the one who recited them.”

I conclude with a hadith:It is reported that Jibreel used to meet with the Prophet (sallallaahu alaihi wasallam) during each night of Ramadaan and they would study the Qur'an together.
