Taraweeh (the night prayer during Ramadan) Part I
Often the first thing we think about after hearing that Ramadan is coming up is Taraweeh-I know I certainly do, but do we know about the immense rewards that earn by praying this prayer?
What the Hadith say about it:
In a hadith narrated by Abu Saeed al Khudri the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said: No servant (of Allah) performs salah during its night (any night of Ramadhaan), but Allah will record for him one thousand five hundred rewards for every sajdah (prostration) that he makes. And Allah will build a home for him in Jannah (paradise) made out of red ruby, which will have sixty thousand doors, each of its doors having (interlinked to, leading to) a palace made out of gold, ornamented (beautified and decorated) with rubies. And for every sajdah that he makes during Ramadhaan, either by day or by night, there will be for him a tree, (in Jannah, so huge that) a person on horseback will ride in its shade for five hundred years.”
+This hadith is saying that if you pray a night prayer in Ramadan; Allah will reward you one thousand and five hundred for every sajdah (or prostration) you make. And for every sajdah you make during the day or night a tree so big a person on horseback will ride under its shade for five hundred years will be waiting for him in Jannah (paradise).
In another hadith narrated by ‘Ayesha (RAA) that the Prophet Muhammed (SAW): prayed one night in the mosque, and the people followed him in prayer. Then he prayed the next night, and many people came. Then they gathered on the third or fourth night, and the Messenger of Allaah (SAW)) did not come out to them. The next morning he said: “I saw what you did, and nothing kept me from coming out to you except the fact that I feared that it would be made obligatory for you.” And that was in Ramadan.
+This hadith describes how taraweeh is a Sunnah mustahab (recommended Sunnah) because the Prophet performed it in Ramadan but specifically said that it was not obligatory.
I conclude with a hadith narrated by Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever prays qiyaam – i.e., Taraweeh – with the imam until he finishes, it will be recorded as if he spent the whole night in prayer.”
Authors Note: look forward to Taraweeh Part II tomorrow inshallah.
