Chapter 2

A few moons later, Wavekit was playing Intruder Alert with Flamekit, Tussledkit, and Wheatkit, who had just gotten to know the two kits, along with Wolfkit. Suddenly, they heard,

"Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey join us at the Highrock for a Clan meeting!"

Wavekit turned and saw Goldstar, the leader of ThunderClan, and his deputy, Reedtail, by his side, on top of the Highrock.

"I wish that we were old enough to catch our own prey," she mewed.

"You will be soon!" Bearfur padded over to Wavekit. "You're five moons, all of you. When you're six moons, you'll become an apprentice and learn the warrior code, hunting, and fighting."

"I can't wait!" Flamekit exclaimed.

"What's the warrior code?" Wavekit asked.

"It's a bunch of rules," Wheatkit grumbled.

"Wheatkit!" Curlyfur said sternly, at Bearfur's side. "The warrior code gives us courage, loyalty, and bravery. You might think that it's a bunch of rules, but when you're an apprentice, you won't think so!"

"Wow..." Wavekit said in awe. "What does Wheatkit mean by 'it's a bunch of rules'?"

"That's a question we'll answer later," Bearfur said. "We need to go to the Clan meeting."

"Can we come too?" Wolfkit mewed.

"You heard Goldstar. You're not an apprentice yet," Curlyfur said. "You can stay with Scarletpelt in the nursery." Scarletpelt was the mother of Flamekit and Tussledkit.

"Awww!" the five kits mewed.

"Don't worry," Waterpaw, an apprentice, said . "You'll soon be apprentices, like me!"

Wavekit brightened up. Waterpaw would be a good den mate.

"Go to the nursery!" Curlyfur meowed. "Scarletpelt is waiting."

"Okay..."

"I can't wait!"

It was a moon later, and Flamekit was saying that for what felt like the millionth time to Wavekit.

"Me neither!" Tussledkit mewed. "I can't wait to learn to hunt to fight to stalk to--"

"We know, we know!" Wavekit laughed. She looked at Wolfkit. "Is he going to be okay for the ceremony?" she asked Curlyfur.

"Don't worry, he's fine," Curlyfur responded.

They heard the call and Wheatkit said, "It's time!"

The five kits bounded down to the Highrock and sat down in front of it. When all the cats were assembled, Goldstar said, "We have never had a ceremony this big, as these five kits become apprentices." He turned to the kits. "Flamekit, Tussledkit, Wolfkit, Wheatkit, and Wavekit, come forward please."

Wavekit's heart was pounding with excitement. She was becoming an apprentice!

"Flamekit," Goldstar meowed. "From this day you shall be known as Flamepaw. Thorntail," he turned to a brown tabby, "you will mentor this apprentice." Flamepaw padded over to Thorntail  and touched noses.

"Tussledkit, from this day you shall be known as Tussledpaw. Treetail, you will mentor this apprentice." Tussledpaw and Treetail touched noses.

"Wolfkit. From this day you shall be known as Wolfpaw. You will be mentored by Splotchpelt." Wolfpaw and Splotchpelt touched noses.

"Wheatkit." Wheatkit's eyes were shining. "From this day you shall be known as Wheatpaw. You will be mentored by Sunfur." Wheatpaw eagerly touched noses with Sunfur.

"Wavekit." Finally! Wavekit's heart was pounding so fast that she couldn't count it. "From this day you will be known as Wavepaw. Speckledfur." A spotted she-cat tabby stepped forward. "You will mentor this apprentice." Wavepaw ran to touch noses with Speckledfur. She was a ThunderClan apprentice now!
