| Chapter 5- Jace |
*From top to bottom, back to square one.*

I frowned as I got a call from Michael on my day off. Sure I wasn't doing anything productive, just lounging around my apartment with sweats and watching Netflix, but still, he wouldn't call me unless there was a situation.
I paused the show 'Stranger Things' and picked up on the fifth ring. "Hello?" I hoped it was important. Stranger Things was really addicting so far. And I was only four episodes in.
"Hi Jace. Sorry to bother you on your day off but can you come and meet me at the studio?" Michael asked tiredly with a slight edge to his tone. I sat up and nodded when I remembered he couldn't see me. That tone was enough to answer my silent question.
"I'll be there in twenty," I replied before I jumped off the couch and ran to change into jeans and a shirt, slapping on my vans and a beanie before I grabbed my wallet, keys, and phone before leaving.
I slid into my car and turned it on before peeling it out of its parking spot and making my way to the studio. Whatever was going on, it had to be important. Maybe something happened with the movie? No, he would've sounded a lot more stressed if that was the case...
I was tempted to check online, to see what was wrong, but decided against it. First off, no scrolling through my phone while driving. Plus, I hated to check my notifications on my days off from work. I didn't want to be notified about all the love the Drama Kings and Queens got. I also wasn't one to go looking at what the paparazzi got of the celebs before twisting the truth into something benefiting them.
I made it in record time and frowned when I saw Laney's manager's car parked next to Michael's. A feeling of dread embedded itself in my stomach and I suddenly had a very bad feeling about this meeting.
I climbed out of my car and locked it before entering the building, my eyes automatically landing on the three figures in the room, two of which were sitting right across from one frustrated looking woman.
Their attention jumped to me and I gulped. The stares weren't pretty although I knew they weren't directed to me persay. I approached them and awkwardly stood there, glancing at them before looking at Michael.
"Please sit," Donovan, Laney's manager, stated as he pointed to the only available chair, which was coincidently next to Laney. Talk about awkward. Especially since she was scowling at the ground.
"Wha-what's going on?" I asked once I cleared my throat.
An article was slapped down in front of me and my eyes widened as I took in Laney's form that was looking up in shock with white powder on her nose. The other figures were shadows but the headline was striking.
"HOLLYWOOD'S YOUNGEST RISING STAR CAUGHT SNORTING BEHIND BAR AFTER MOVIE PREMIERE!"
My mind blanked out briefly before anger coursed in me. I snapped my attention at the men before looking at Laney in disbelief. "Really? You really resorted to this?!" I exclaimed and her glare, the one that sent people in the opposite direction, was cast on me. But I didn't budge one millimeter.
