| Chapter 7- Jace |

*Try as you might, I won't let you leave me so quickly again.*

The airplane ride was quiet, except for the additional whispers coming from the people seated around us. We got curious looks every now and then, more specifically Laney. After all, she was someone who stood out a bit more with her fancier dressing. I probably should've mentioned dressing more casual but I didn't need my head chomped off.

I continued to browse through my book, trying to fill the quietness with the words on the page. Usually I was able to get lost in the world the book took place in, however, I couldn't seem to do that today. Maybe it was because Laney was always shooting me small daggers with her eyes. Or maybe it was her posture when she talked on the phone with someone.

I wasn't one to eavesdrop, no matter how badly I wanted to, but I would look at her every now and then to figure out her state of mind at the moment. She was in turmoil, no matter how hard she tried to hide it, I saw it through her body movement. Whoever she talked to on the phone made an impact on her.

"What?" I finally asked, tired of her icy gaze on me. The book slammed shut in the process. But instead of answering, she simply looked out the window and I frowned, picking my book back up.

We went a few more minutes of quiet when she finally turned back around to look at me. "You know what bothers me?" she asked and I simply quirked a brow at her to go on. "That you're taking me to Texas without my consent," she added and I simply looked at her.

"This whole thing is without your consent. What's one more?" I asked with a shrug and she glared at me. Then she scoffed.

"Of course," she mumbled and I frowned.

"What's that supposed to mean?" I asked.

"Oh nothing. Just how you're another one of the people who look down at me," she replied with a wave of her hand and I frowned in confusion.

"Excuse me?" I asked. She simply looked at me with cold eyes.

"I mean it Jace. You're just like everyone else thinking you're better than me because I'm the 'Wicked Witch of the Set'," she finished with a quote on her nickname.
