| Chapter 11- Jace |
*A change, no matter how faint, is still a change.*

"You could either wait or do whatever you want. I don't care," Laney told me as she climbed out of the car and towards the hair salon closest to us.
"Uh...o-okay," I stammered, unable to say anything more since she closed the door in my face. I frowned. She did a full one-eighty and I had idea what to make of it. What changed?
I groaned and decided to drive around the lot and see what I could do. Maybe I could get frozen yogurt? No. I might wait and see if she wants any. She was a sucker for frozen yogurt. So I decided to go to shoe shopping instead.
About two hours later, as I was roaming around Kohl's, I got a call from Laney. Frowning, I picked up. "Hello?" I asked.
"I'm done. Can you please pick me up?" she asked and I blinked, my mouth slightly parted. She just said please.
"U-uh yeah, sure," I quickly scrambled to say as I jumped up and ran towards my car, unlocking it and sliding inside. I turned on the car and drove back to the salon, parking in the front.
I then walked out and was going to go inside when she stepped out. My eyes widened and my mouth dropped. My heart began speeding up as I looked at her.
Her hair, which was once long and luscious, was now cropped short, barely touching her shoulders. It was in soft and round curls, accenting her slender face. It was still blonde but she had some light brown highlights covering the roots of her hair.
She looked at me and smirked. Dang it. She caught me staring. She made her way towards me, her tan legs exposed under the shorts she wore. "See something you like?" she teased and I was struck with the familiarity of it.
"Uh, you...cut your hair," I stammered and mentally smacked myself. Stupid. Of course she did!
"Yes. I'm pretty sure I did," she said seriously and I felt myself blushing in embarrassment.
"Why?" I found myself asking. She pointed to the car and I nodded, opening the door for her before closing it and sliding into my side.
"Because. I wanted to do something spontaneous for myself," she replied with a shrug.
I backed out of the lot and made my way back on the highway. "Well, it really suits you," I told her honestly as I cast a quick glance at her. I saw her try to keep the smile off her face and she succeeded a second to late.
A change, no matter how faint, was still a change. And Laney, here for only three weeks, had started to crack. Barely. I smiled knowingly and I heard her slightly growl.
"Stop smiling," she bit and I couldn't help it. I laughed.
The music began playing on the radio and I turned the volume up, the windows down and the wind blowing through our hair. As we made our way on the highway, I glanced at the girl next to me and was pleasantly surprised to see the calm and smiling look on her face.
She looked at me and flashed me a heartwarming smile. It's only been three weeks but maybe, just maybe, she'd be back to her original self before the three months were up. The Laney back then was still in her. That much I was certain of. She just needed the little push a bit more. Hopefully she wouldn't shut it out. Hopefully she wouldn't shut me out again.

Tada! What do you think? Think Laney is taking a step in the right direction? What of Jace? Should he get his hopes up high? Or would it be pointless?
