CHAPTER 24

"Someone help! Take them to the med lab!" Oscar shouted once both of them went down.

The other two employees were like majorly scared to touch them because Roxy was covered in blue.

" Oh for Christ sake." Oscar groaned and carried Roxy while another tougher employee carried max and the rushed them to the med lab.

Everything was all set. Every machine in place.

" Alright everyone. Pls step outside. I need to examine them." The doctor said.

"Pls don't let anything happen to them."

" That's my job." The doctor said.

Oscar nodded approvingly.

They were there for a very long time, pacing around Waiting for something to happen. Eventually Gregory left with his assistant. Oscar paced back nd forth still waiting. Eventually the doctor came out. Oscar was relieved.

" How are they?"

The doctor led him the door. He looked. Max was awake, sitting beside Roxy's bed.

" Max's awake thank God. But Roxy isn't. Max wants to know Wat's wrong. The glow has also stopped." He said.

" What's up with her?"

" Well Oscar I ran a series of tests and there's only one conclusion. I found a high volume of quantonium in her system."

Oscar's eyes flew open. He staggered back until he landed on d chair.

" Does max know about this?"

" No. I haven't told him. I still have 2 run a few more tests but I think it's better if Roxy tells him herself." The doctor said.

Oscar nodded. He looked into the room again. Oh Roxy.

Roxy's pov
I woke up feeling light headed. I turned to see max beside me, his head bowed down. I gentle stroked his ear. He immediately shot up, like he wasn't sleeping.

" Roxy! Thank goodness. What happened back there. Are you okay?"

" Yeah. Just a little dizzy."

The door creaked open. We both turned to see my dad. Max turned to look at me and we knew war dat meant. He headed straight for the door. They exchanged a few words before he left.

" Hey kiddo. Hw u feeling?"

" Honestly. I don't even know." Dad wore a sad smile.

"  What's wrong dad? Is mum okay?"

"Your mum's fine. She's in a group trip. What's bothering me is u."

" Me?"

" Roxy dear. You know how much u love u, our family and my job?"

" I do dad. But why are u saying all of this. You're scaring me."

" The doctor said he found traces of quantonium in your blood Roxy."

I sat up straight. I was flabbergasted.

" Dad...I...

" No need there. I just wanna know why u wouldn't tell me about it. We know everything Roxy."

" Believe me dad I tried to tell u. But I was waiting for the right time. I told mum about it. I'm really sorry dad." I said holding his hands.

" Well the long story about Ur transformation has been unraveled, but have you told him?"

I knew who he was referring to.

" No."

"No? You both have come so far in Ur relationship and u haven't told him?"

" Dad I told u it's complicated."

" Well u better do the right thing Roxy before u lose him."

I couldn't help but hug him.

" Thanks for understanding dad."

" Anytime Kiddo." He said and heeded towards the direction of the door.

" Your mum is in so much trouble u know?" He asked.

I laughed.

" Max." I called for the umpteenth time.

Ever since dad left the lab, I made up my mind to tell max everything. But I have to find him first. I headed straight for the research room but he wasn't there neither was he in any other place u had checked since I started looking.

Then💡max wouldn't have gone back to the dorms even without telling. He could only be on the terrace. So I ran. Up all the stairs as fast as I could till I got there. I took a breath. I walked slowly. I didn't even know why I was anxious. I opened the door to see his back facing me.

" Max?" I called out. He didn't seem to want to answer cus he adjusted further away from me.

" Max. What's wrong?" I asked moving towards him quickly to see him crying. Or sort of.

" Max?! Oh fucking Christ what's wrong? I cupped his face with my hands, using my thumb to wipe a tear away. But he turned his face away. One thing he had never done in the entire 4 months since I fell for him. Yes I fell, and I fell hard. And I thought he did too. He told me everything time he kissed me, when he looked at me. But this was a new max.

" I heard it all. Every fucking word. How long did u think u could keep it from. I know we aren't exactly the perfect couple but how long? How long Roxy?"

" Max please try and understand, I was going to tell u but I was afraid."

" What could you have been possible afraid of. I don't even mind that what we've been working on is flowing through your veins but why did I have to find out like this."

" Max." I sobbed, moving closer to him but he stepped back.

" Don't do this Roxy. I need to think." He said before walking away.

I felt my legs go weak. My heart aching. And I just realized. For the first time since we met, he didn't once call me baby doll.
