With her husband on the brink of death, she sought out an extraordinary solution. One that was not offered by doctors. The solution came in form of a woman with fiery red hair and an explosive personality. She offered Lydia a risky deal, one that she found herself doubting. And yet, Lydia accepted it. She was out of options and she'd do anything to save her family. Even sacrifice her own life.
The woman's name was Seraphina and she was an alien who needed a host; a human body to inhabit in order for her to stay on Earth. Lydia offered her body and in return, her husband's good health was returned to him. She agreed to be a host to her and give her full control over her body, to do whatever she pleased. Seraphina would live out her days in her body and Lydia agreed to stay quietly in the background. She'd naively assumed that once she died, the deal would end. But she'd missed one thing: Seraphina was immortal and far more powerful than anybody could imagine. She would continue to live on Earth, using the bodies of her future descendants as hosts. Lydia tried to fight it but the alien being was much stronger than she was and she remained tied to her for the rest of her life. But Lydia never stopped fighting it and she managed to pass the secret to her daughter who passed it on to her daughter and their secrets lived on for generations to come.
The Banks were stuck with a horrible fate but they never stopped fighting and after centuries, each individual managed to gain an upper hand of sorts. They managed to be in control and banished Seraphina to the back of their minds where she was a burden only to them. Every once in a while, Seraphina managed to break through the surface and gain consciousness for few minutes where she wreaked havoc. But it was something that they could control. There was never a huge incident. Not until Ana, at least.
Anastasia Banks was the latest of the Bank's clan and she was fighting a losing battle with herself. She had a sweet personality; she was the kind of person who went out to her way to fix things for others or make them happy even if it meant that she was unhappy. She was an excellent person to be around and yet, she seemed to repel people. It was the little things that she couldn't explain. Like how she felt the sudden need to make somebody cry or would give a small laugh at the sight of somebody in pain. It always felt like a whole other person took over her when those happened. She blanked and came back to find herself in trouble with her school principal or the police.
In high school, it made her popular. She was the sweet girl with a mean streak that nobody wanted to cross and people found it entertaining how two-faced she could be. But when real life hit, Ana found herself losing friends and family because of it. It was out of her control; it felt as if, in those moments, she was a different person. It wasn't until she was a grown woman that her parents shared with her their family secret. At that point, it was too late to learn to control it. She became two separate people, the two talking turns to live her life.
She didn't like it but she lived with it. She assumed it was her own problem. That is until she gains consciousness and finds herself in the midst of ashes and with multiple guns pointed to her head.

So, Ana wakes up and finds herself in trouble and finds that she's hurt people and burned down houses because that is Sera's power. After that, Ana is pretty much wanted by the government but SHIELD finds her and they strike a deal with T'Challa to take her to Wakanda like they did with Bucky and even though Sera seems like the villain, she's just trying to find her family and eventually try work together
