Song: Innocent - Danny PadillaThe snow has begun to melt after almost two weeks of a complete blanket of snow covering the Earth. Some days I could barely get to school without getting into several accidents so Elizabeth and I have only seen each other on campus. We didn't want to risk it due to the road conditions. I can't even imagine the crazy story I would tell my parents when they'd ask me why I was even out. Either way, everyone is glad the snow has gone and it's starting to warm up.
Even if everyone is happy, we're still all exhausted Monday afternoon in seventh hour. The energy in Elizabeth's classroom is obviously dry and she can tell. Pretty much the entire class, she's been trying to lift our moods and every once in a while it would work, at least for me. As tired as I am, her subtle jokes and high energy is helping to sneak a smile onto my lips.
"Xena stay after class with me." Elizabeth demands as she sits down at her desk after helping students with their classwork. Boredom takes over my mind and I decide to tease her a little.
"Why?" I say with a smirk but it fades when other students turn to face me. I never defy teachers and everyone knows that. All my confidence gone, I stare at Elizabeth with worry as she cocks an eyebrow at me.
"Does it matter?" She responds with a smirk. Some of the students call out 'ooh's as if she burned me. I smile and shrug, gaining some of my confidence back.
"Well I'm busy after school." I reply with a challenging gaze at Elizabeth. She stands up slowly and places her hands on her desk.
"Reschedule." I don't know how a person can make one word sound so sexy but the way her hip is slightly popped to one side is really messing with my mind. At a loss for words, my silence fills the room as the other kids expect my reply.
"Fine." I give up. I'm not sure where I was planning on going with that in the first place. I'm actually rejoicing because I get to hang out with my girlfriend alone for a few minutes. I guess I just wanted to keep her on her toes or something. Continuing with the rebel student attitude, I slouch back in my seat but I can feel Elizabeth's eyes on me. When I steal a glance at her, she's biting her cheek, obviously a little pissed off.
"What's gotten into you Xena?" Avalon taps my shoulder with her pencil, capturing my attention. I look at her and furrow my brow.
"What do you mean?" I ask, accidentally still with my 'bad girl' vibe.
"I mean you're acting weird. I've never seen you be rude to a teacher, especially not Ms Clarke. Did she give you a bad grade or something?" She assumes which I guess is the best excuse I have. I can't say something like I just felt like it because then she'd really start to be concerned.
"Yeah, sorry. I thought I did really well on this one assignment but she gave me a C." I say with genuine emotion. She nods her head in understanding and glances over at Elizabeth.
"She's been staring at you a lot recently. I bet she feels bad. That's probably what she wanted to tell you after class. Don't sweat it." Avalon's kind words actually calm me even though I had nothing to be worried about in the first place. The bell rings and as she stands, she kisses my cheek in a goodbye. I look at Elizabeth as she sends her students off and she seems happy that they're leaving.
I stay behind but move over to the back while Elizabeth is distracted and sit on her desk, crossing my legs. I watch her with a smile glued to my lips, thinking about how lucky I am to be with her. Sure she's not exactly the woman everyone is lusting after but I sure as hell am and that's what matters. She's incredibly smart and sweet but at the same time she can make my knees weak and my words stutter. That's amazing.
