Quin left Zoe's bedroom, after sleeping in her bed all night, awaiting news, and walked into the kitchen. He saw Blayke already up with a cup of coffee in front of him at the breakfast nook.
"Any news?" Quin asked in a raspy voice with his hair messed up and in tangles.
"I didn't sleep at all last night."
"Besides the fact that Cristina couldn't sleep, so he had to sleep on the floor in our room, and may I add that he sleep-talks…aye, that kid." Blayke ran his hand through his dreads as Quin grabbed himself a cup of coffee.
"No, there's no news. Mom and dad haven't called. It's only 6:30 though."
"They didn't even come home last night though." Quin said as he sat across from Blayke. "If Zoe was okay, they'd be home, right?"
"No." Blayke answered simply.
"Zoe is their little princess. Trust me. They'll be by her side until the doctor gives them the okay that she can come home. My dad's always had a fear of hospitals. He thinks someone will snatch his little girl while he goes home and changes. When it comes to Zoe, my parents only trust you."
"I'm not shocked." Quin sighed. "I can't go to school like this."
"Me neither." Blayke agreed.
Ring…ring…
Both Blayke and Quin jumped for the house phone, but Quin grabbed it first after knocking the other boy to the ground.
"Hello? Cipher's Residence!" He said in a hurry, praying it was Skyler or Dominic.
"Wow, Quin , you sound awake." It was Dominic.
Quin chuckled. "Um, yeah. I woke up about…who am I kidding? I didn't sleep at all, Dom. How's Zoe?" Blayke stood back up, glaring at Quin, but tried to listen in.
"By the time we arrived at the ER, Zoe was in too deep with this appendicitis. Blayke was a miracle for bringing that information to us. We made a grave mistake by putting that heating pad on her stomach. It only caused her appendix to erupt. Fortunately, they took her into surgery immediately and they just informed us that they found no sign of any danger to Zoe or her baby. She'll make a full recovery and should be home tomorrow."
Both of the teenage boys sighed in relief. "Thank God." Blayke leaned against the nearest counter in exhaustion.
Quin smiled. "I'm so glad, Dom. We were so worried about her."
"Well, again, we must give a big thanks to Blayke. If it wasn't for him, we wouldn't have made it in time. Zoe would've been in critical condition by the time we even made it to the doctors if Blayke hadn't said anything. We all owe Blayke. He seriously is his sister's protector."
"Yes, he is." Quin looked to Blayke, who was staring off into space. "I owe him everything."
"We all do. Anyways, Skyler and I decided that if you boys wanted, you may stay home today and you can come visit Zoe whenever you want after visiting hours begin at 10am. When you guys come, we'll switch off and go home and change."
"We'll be there at 10." Quin said, seeing Blayke nod in agreement.
"Alright then. Blayke knows where the keys to the SUV are, so take that car. See you boys then. I'll tell Zoe to call you when she wakes up and feels up to talking. Skyler will call the school as well."
