Rye's POV
"I don't know," I said to Jack, the first thing he asked me when he got in the car was, 'so, are you back together?'
"Well, what did you talk about?" he questioned, he was looking over at me curiously.
"Not a lot," I admitted, "I kinda told her I loved her..."
"Wait, what?" his eyes widened, "what did she say?"
"That she loves me too," I said softly and smiled at the thought. She loved me.
I could Jack's smile from the corner of my eye and smirked a little. "Where did you take her?"
"That huge aquarium just out of town."
He chuckled, "if that doesn't win her back, nothing will."
"Yeah? I'll have to hope it does then," I said and took a deep breath.
"It will, she told me aquariums are her favorite places on earth," Jack nodded and I relaxed a little, though still prayed she'd forgive me.
"Yeah you told me ages ago she loved them," I smiled.
Her and Jack had been talking about perfect dates, he asked her what her perfect date would be and after saying, "April 25th, because it's not too hot and not too cold, all you need is a light jacket," and earning a laugh from Jack - and myself when he told me - she told him.
"Aquariums are my favorite places to go, but I don't know if it'd be a good date because I'd probably ignore him to look at the fish."
"Did I?" Jack questioned.
"Yeah," I chuckled, "it was quite a while ago now, like."
"Yeah, it was months ago she told me that," he chuckled, "you remember everything, don't you?"
"I remember everything when it comes to her."
---
I couldn't concentrate properly on the song we were leaning, but I couldn't fuck up any more, especially with Blair on my back. But, I thought, Blair's not here, maybe I could get away with it just til he was back.
Brooklyn snapped his fingers in front of my face, bringing me back into reality and I looked at him, "mate, you need to concentrate, Blair'll be back in like half an hour."
I nodded, taking a deep breath, "I'm good, I'm good; concentrating."
I managed to pull through and by the time Blair came in we'd all learned our parts for the song, which of course made him happy.
He pulled me aside when he got there, taking me downstairs, "you okay today? No distractions?"
"If I'm honest, I think breaking things off will be more of a distraction," I said and before I could continue, he cut me off.
"You need to think about long term, Rye, this band is gonna be busy soon and girlfriends aren't something that we can afford to get in the way."
"But she's not someone I can afford to lose, I broke things off and it was worse mistake I've ever made," I told him, and I meant it, "I spent all morning trying to make things up to her and I'm not gonna let myself lose her again. She's amazing, she's the best thing that's ever happened to me and she's worth any shit you or my dad are gonna throw at me."
His brows raised, the shock evident on his face, though he didn't speak for a moment, seeming to take in what I'd said. "Have you told your dad?" he finally asked.
"Not yet," I swallowed.
"Well good luck with that," he said, "and I'm not gonna tell you to break things off, I want you to be happy, but if she gets in the way of the band stuff one more time I swear you're gone and your dad will have another reason to be pissed."
My dad and Blair had always been pretty close, and had the same views when it came to me having a girlfriend. Blair had always told us to be careful, to not let someone distract us from the band. He didn't care what we did or who who did it with, as long as we still put 110% effort into RoadTrip. My dad on the other hand, was completely against it, claiming it was impossible to juggle both. He wanted me to concentrate on the band and threatened that if I ever distracted myself with a girl that he'd make sure one of them ended up finished. So he'd either kick me out of the band or break us up. I couldn't deal with either of those.
And now I had to tell him. Shit. I had to tell him I had a girlfriend, that I was going out with one of his employees. God, he wouldn't be happy. Neither would she. But maybe I could just tell him that I was with someone, maybe I could get away with not telling him who she was? I needed to speak to her about it, but I realised, I needed to make sure she was still my girlfriend first.
"Are we clear?" Blair said and I looked up at him.
"Crystal," I nodded.
I ran back upstairs and the second we had a break, I grabbed my phone to text her - I saw a couple missed calls from her. Halfway through typing, Jack pinched it out of my hands and replaced it with his own. They'd been talking.
- he took me to the aquarium and I swear that's my favorite place in the world
- apparently he remembered that from months ago, cute isn't he?
- the cutest 😍
- does that mean you two are good?
- probably, I need to speak to him tho
- he's w Blair atm if you're trying to get hold of him
- tell him to call me when he's free 😘
- sure😘
- thanks boo 😊
I pressed the call button and after a couple of rings, she picked up, "Jack, you okay? Is Rye okay?"
I smirked, "it's Rye. I'm fine, were all fine." She worried about me, and made my heart melt, "i was about to text you and Jack said you wanted me to call."
"Good. Yeah, I wanted to say thank you for today, I had an amazing time," she said and I could almost see the smile on her face, "but also sorry if I kind of ignored you to look at the fish.."
"You're welcome, so did I. And hey, don't apologize, I got to spend time with the most beautiful girl in the world," I said softly and she chuckled, "I really meant it when I said I love you, you know? This whole thing has made me realise how much you mean to me."
"You mean to world to me, Ryan, and I couldn't deal with losing you--"
"Does this mean you'll stay with me?"
"I'd love to," she chuckled, "but if you get in any more trouble with Blair I'm gonna have to kill you, Beau."
"That's fair," I smirked, "right, I've gotta go but I'll call you when we're done, I promise."
"Okay, have fun! And go smash that song, you'll be amazing," she said before adding, a little quieter, "I love you, Ryan."
"I love you too."
