She was the Crown Princess. A Queen in the making. She was the future of their kingdom, the one whose veins flow with the blood of the royals. Blood tracing all the way back to the first ruler of their kingdom. Her entire life had been planned out for her with no loopholes in between. She was already tied down, married to a high-ranking noble man. She was married to a Duke. Her cousin twice removed.

We were never meant to be. It was both an official law of the kingdom and the law of nature for a half-blood to never come into contact with a royal.

Unless they had a death wish.

I was born in a prestigious noble family but I was the last one standing after my entire clan was wiped out mysteriously. So I became a slave of a noble man. When the noble man I serve was caught for murdering one of his wives, he offered me instead. My head as punishment for a crime I didn't commit in exchange for my lord's life. Such was the way of our kingdom. It was unfair but I had no say in it.

The entire royal family was present on the day of my execution. The King and Queen, the Crown Prince and Crown Princess as well as the three Princes and their wives. The Crown Princess had been in the arms of her Husband when I was dragged into the throne room by the guards. When the cloth bag covering my face was removed, I dared challenge to break the rules and looked into the eyes of the royals. After all, it was my death day. Who was to stop me from doing so?

When my eyes locked with those of the Crown Princess, my breath hitched. Her dark brown eyes seemed to pull me in to its depths as unknown feelings surged up in me. I could see the emotions swirling in her eyes like a whirlpool and I knew the emotions in her irises matched those in mine. I bit my tongue harshly, tasting the tang of blood. I knew it was wrong. She was royalty while I was a slave. Our worlds were far apart, complete polar opposites. I have nothing to offer her, nothing I can be proud of to give her. I am not even able to provide for her. For goodness' sake, she was married and I was about to face my death!

But what was this undeniable attraction between us?
