Chapter 13:

6 months after the dance.

I walked into the front entrance of the school and looked around me. I couldn't find Jake anywhere. I walked over to a bench and plopped down. I looked around and could literally see all of the cliques at our school. The jocks were standing by the doors goofing off while the cheerleaders cling into all of them. Yes I do cheer, but I do competitive cheer. Not school cheer. Next I saw the nerds gathered around a table probably discussing something that even the teachers wouldn't understand. The creepy kids were sitting in a corner probably talking about their latest piercing and my old "friends" just walked through the door. I guess Holli decided she could take over. Holli stood in the middle and stared me down. I just rolled my eyes and pulled out my phone.

I started scrolling through twitter when someone ruffled my hair and sat next to me. Someone else followed behind and sat on the other side of me. I whipped my head up and saw Alex and Nick sitting there laughing. "Hey Bea." They both said. "Hey guys. Do you know where Jake is?" I asked. Alex put his hand over his heart and gasped dramatically. "Are we not good enough for you?" He questioned playfully. "Oh shut up Alex. He said he should be here any second." Nick said. I nodded and turned towards Nick. He had pulled out his phone and was looking at something.

I heard the front doors open and looked up. I saw Jake walking in with his signature leather jacket in his hand. He walked over with a smirk and pecked me on the lips. He shoved Nick over and sat next to me. Nick just laughed it off.

"Ugh." I groaned.

"What?" Jake asked.

"I just realized that we have a quiz in history and I forgot to study."

"At least it's Friday!" Nick said way too cheerfully. We all nodded in reply. Once the bell rang we all split up and went to our lockers.

Luckily the day went by pretty quickly and now it was time to go home. I walked back to my locker and saw Jake leaning up against it.

"Well hello there." I said.

"Hey. I figured I could give you a ride home."

"Yeah, sure. Let me just get my bag." He nodded while I put my books away and pulled my bag out. We started down the hallway and I felt his hand slip through mine. I smiled and looked up at him. A small smile was on his face too.

Once we were in the car my phone started to ring. "One sec." I said. I answered and heard a man on the other line. "Hello?" I asked.

"Hello this is Doctor Freeman. Is this Beatrice Taylor?"

"Yes." I said with a little worry in my voice.

"Okay, well, we need you down at the hospital as soon as possible. Your mother and sister have been in a terrible car wreck." My heart felt like it was about to explode from how fast it was pumping blood and my head was pounding. "I-I will be right there." With that I hung up and turned toward Jake. "Is everything alright?" He asked. "Just drive me to the hospital. It's an emergency."
