Hours since launch: 27

Day of travel: 2

It's been 24 hours since I last wrote in this.

So far, we've passed the moon, Mars and are now approaching the asteroid belt and Jupiter.

It looks cold. That's about all I can say about it. Most of space looks cold and empty but I find it kind of beautiful at the same time. Is that weird?

There's no point in me rambling on about space because you're here with me, diary. I mean, not-diary. Besides, if someone else is reading this, you're likely to be in space too so you'll know exactly what I'm talking about.

Also, if you're "someone else" whose mother named you Katri, go away. I thought I told you not to go through my stuff last night! Oh well, I can't really stop you from reading this can I? You're a busybody and I suppose you can't help it, can you? Don't worry, you make up for your nosy ways by being a pretty cool friend and an awesome asset to the team.

How awkward would it be if you never read this Katri? I'm just talking to you in here, but what if you never see this? I'm just going to pretend that you are going to read this...

Anyway, space is pretty cool. Our solar system looks incredible once you're actually out here, although it's kind of hard to see when you're moving as quickly as we are. Actually, it's really hard to see but we sit by the main window and just watch the space outside sometimes anyway. We're going to have to cover most of the windows soon because as we're travelling, we're increasing our speed and soon, everything outside will just be one giant blur. So we're going to cover the windows so we don't feel sick every time we walk past one.

So far we haven't had to do much, we've just eaten, exercised and tried to sleep. Key word: tried. We have normal beds with pillows and fluffy blankets and everything, but it just feels so weird sleeping in space. I mean, every time you see a window it looks like a way cooler version of Earth's night sky and it really messes you up. Yes, the starship does dim its lights every twelve hours as an artificial night, but its not the same as the complete darkness you can get back on Earth.

I'm not saying I can't turn off all the lights in my room, because I can. It's just that if you go elsewhere, its not dark enough. And me, being the weird person I am, can't always sleep until I have almost total darkness. That makes sleeping a lot more difficult than it should be.

It's not just the light either, the way the ship is constantly moving and making noise is distracting. Yes, we slept with noises around us for a year as part of training, but the noises are slightly different. It's a minor thing, but it makes a big difference for us.

Doesn't really matter though, we'll adjust in time.
