This is part 2 of an update. Please make sure you've read the previous part first :)

Hours since launch: 43 787
Days of travel: 1825
It's been five years since we left Earth. Or at least it's been that long for us. But for the people of Earth, we've been gone 353 years. I knew they wouldn't remember us forever. I knew that one day we'd never hear form them again.
Four years ago today they told us regular contact would be ceased which we figured out that it was probably due to the fact that messages would be delayed because we were too far away from Earth. Since then, we've received six messages from them, all about updates in the change of leadership although one was to let us know we'd officially travelled further than any Earthen object. The last one was just over a year ago, about 70 Earth years. We've all secretly prayed we'll hear back from the people of Earth but recently our hopes have been slipping away.
We always knew that one day we'd be forgotten. Honestly, I'm surprised it lasted this long. The communication between us and Earth, I mean. But maybe we weren't forgotten. If the people of Earth have managed to keep talking to us for so long, why stop now? Skyler mentioned something earlier about her and Nic trying to send messages to Earth recently. She didn't say why or what was in the messages, only that Nic says he believes something's obstructing their way back to Earth. Even if there wasn't, or if Earth was simply unable to receive messages we won't know for a very long time; our laser messages take years to get back to Earth now because they can only travel as fast as the speed of light.
Still, I don't know what's worse: being forgotten or never being able to reach Earth. At least the first option means the people of Earth are still alive to be able to forget.
I guess the only thing I can do is not think about it, to just get on with whatever needs doing around here. Not that there's much to do. We seem to have heaps of free time now, although our exercise routines have tripled in time and in intensity. Not that it really matters, I'm beginning to think we might never make it to another planet. This ship will probably be the last thing I'll ever know.
Sorry for sounding so negative but it's true. We're all starting to feel this way now, we're all losing hope. But who knows because anything can happen, right?
Ship's computer's getting pissed at me now. Who knew a machine that speaks binary and has a gender-less, monotone voice could be pissed?
