None of us thought too much of it when she seemed a little off yesterday. It had started with a simple headache. Then a fever took its hold on her. We'd sent her to bed, the computer prescribing her some medicine to help her sleep soundly. When she'd awoken in the morning, the whites of her eyes were red, her skin seemed to have lost all of its colour and a glistening layer of sweat coated her body.
I'm so shaken right now I haven't even told you who it was. Ciera. It was Ciera.
We had the computer up and running diagnostics on her when she started. Something just snapped inside her and she had turned to Corie, grabbing him by the shoulders and shaking him. She'd started shrieking in his ear, a wild, pleading look in her bloodshot eyes. At first it was difficult to understand what she was saying but then we began to realise she was raving about our doom. Her words are ingrained into my brain. I feel they always will be.
'We can't be saved! We have to save ourselves!' She had said, her words making no sense in her fragile state of mind. 'We're the last ones left!'
She ran from person to person, shaking them and screaming. Tears ran down her face and the occasional shriek of laughter would escape her lips. She continued on like this for nearly an hour while we tried to stop her. But she could not be calmed.
In the end, she had run to the airlock. She'd locked herself into it and stood at the door, looking through the window with a mad sort of smile on her face.
'One day you'll see. One day you'll understand,' she had told us, her voice muffled through the door.
And then she had reached out and hit the button, opening the doors out to space. We'd all watched in horror as she was sucked out into the vacuum of stars.
My hands are still trembling. I still can't breathe properly. Her words are still stuck in my head. I can't even speak. So I'm writing this, to get out everything I need to say and everything that's troubling me.
I have to go.
