The Long Road Less Taken

Chapter 2

I was walking to my home room when I spotted my best friend

Lexi waving at me. I was really happy to see her. I hadn't seen her most of the summer. Because she was always traveling with her swim team, I'm not the athletic type.

"Oh my god Vikki. It's been so long! How are you?" said Lexi after hugging me almost knocking me down.

"I'm great. I've missed you too. How is swimming?" I said after peeling her off me so I could actually breathe.

"Ugh, it's tiring. We went to Raleigh last week. We almost didn't win the relay, but in the end we did."

"That's awesome!" I wanted to ask her about her boyfriend, but I didn't have a chance, because the bell rang for home room.

"Crap we better get going" she said before pivoting and dashing off.

Right after she left I was running to keep up with her. Then we skirted to a stop as we got to the door. I fixed my hair out of habit. Mrs. Elizabeth gave me and Lexi a look. I had always hated her.

"I'm glad you two decided to arrive. Please sit down now."

"Burn in hell" I thought.

Then we went to go sit down. I looked around and saw everyone I had known for awhile. But I saw a different haircut that I had never seen in my class. It was obviously a guy, but I couldn't see his face.

"Must be the new kid." I thought.

"All right class be quiet!" boomed Mrs. Elizabeth. Sometimes I wondered how she was married. I felt sorry for him.

"I hope you all had a good summer. And I'm sure you all are very excited for a new academic school year!"

*Lots of groaning*

"Be quiet!! Now this year we have a new student with us."

I immediately looked over to the boy with the cool hair. I'm sure I wasn't the only one.

"Jonathan," he looked up, "would you please do us the honor of coming up and introducing us to the class?"

He got up, very slowly because it was obvious he was nervous and didn't want to come up. Then once he got up there I saw his face. His hair was black with white highlights. He has these electric blue eyes. I looked at his outfit and noticed all the band bracelets. Then because being the over-observant person I am, i just studied the rest of his outfit. He had the same band that was on my t-shirt. So I knew immediately we would probably be really good friends. He also had torn-up blue jeans and combat boots that had lots of buckles, my favorite.

"Hi...um I'm Jonathan Walker...and I just moved here to St. Augustine from New York City...my parents found a better job down here. So, ya."

I couln't stop looking at him, I don't know why, but there was just something that just captivated me. I mean, it's not everyday I see a person, let alone a guy, who had the same style as me. He looked at the teacher and said

"Can I sit down now?"

I smiled. It was obvious that he had a sense of humour. Another thing I liked about this Jonathan kid.

"Yes you can." said Mrs. Elizabeth

As he was walking back to his seat, I turned away to look at Lexi. She raised her eyebrows at me and I gave her a little shove. Then when I looked back over at Jonathan I saw him looking at me from across the room. I blushed and looked away. I wasn't used to guys looking at me so it was a obvious reaction. Then, just to insure safety, I put my hair in front of my face. Then I grabbed my pencil and found a piece of notebook paper and wrote to Lexi

Did you see him looking at me OMG.

Then I looked around to make sure no one, especially Mrs. Elizabeth, was looking at me before sliding the note to my side for Lexi.

After she read it, wrote something down, and looked around like me she slid me the note.

Yes! He is so your type you need to go for that.

I wrote back saying

Shut up. But he is really cute. Okay now let's stop before the devil kills us.

When I pass it to her I hear her let a quiet giggle that only I could hear really.
