Chapter 28 - Testing the Theory

Natsu pushed Maya, Jackal and Zeref into a room and walked in with them. He then closed the door behind him. Well, more like slammed. An awkward silence filled the air as we all stared at the door. I was confused but mainly happy that he did that, now we won't have to watch her getting tortured anymore. I felt so guilty about not being able to do anything about it.
"I'm sort of glad he did that." Volpina said.
"Me too." Cat Noir replied.
"Yeah." I said. I looked over at Bella. Maya was her twin sister, whether she liked it or not. So I wondered how she felt about this. It was natural to worry about blood relatives, but sometimes that worry doesn't always work, depending what the person did. But there had to be a reasonable explanation behind her actions. So what was the motive?

"Are you alright, Bella?" I asked her. There was no other way for me to know what she was feeling unless I asked.
"Yeah. I think so. Thanks for asking, it's just that. Maya was so different when we were little. We were so close. I could never imagine her doing this, even now I feel like I'm in a dream."
"But there has to be a reason why she did all of this, right?"
"Yeah. Or at least I hope so. And if there is a reason that it makes sense and it's not because of some stupid reason." Then the door where Natsu and the others went to opened and Maya came out, with Zeref, Jackal, Happy, Lucy and Natsu behind her. Wait, there's someone or something else. It was in a humanoid form. There was a sack on top of it's head and it's hands and feet were bound by rope. The clothes were not very different from Maya's. What are they going to be doing?

"Anne Ruve, Madam Vortex. Seek to meet the dragon Acnologia's wish to create a portal. We must do this swiftly." Maya said.
"Our lady why?" Anne Ruve asked.
"Our lady, we mustn't! There is another chance at the next eclipse!" Madam Vortex added.
"But that will be years away." Maya said.
"So we will keep a prisoner for years!" Anne Ruve said.
"So we will keep our strength for years!" Madam Vortex added.
"The longer we have a prisoner the sooner it is for them to rescue the intended sacrifice." Maya said. "And the sacrifice might die while imprisoned.
"But our hard work." Anne Ruve groaned.
"But our sleepless nights." Madam Vortex groaned.
"But our research for years." Anne Ruve groaned again.
"But our life for years." Madam Vortex followed suit with the groaning.
"Will be for nothing?" They both asked simultaneously. And with no surprise a groan! Were they in the middle of a groaning competition.
Anyway what does Maya have to say about that?
"The years spent on this project won't be for nothing. It will be for something."
"What is something, our lady?" Anne Ruve asked desperate on the verge of tears. Madam Vortex had the same reaction but with slightly different words
"What is the meaning, our lady?"
"We know that it all works, so we can do it again at a later date. Now I command you to create that portal! Do you wish to defy me?!" Maya shouted at them. They both winced and shook their heads.
"No, our lady." They said.

"Good now open the portal for all of the mages to return to their dimension." Maya said, with a solemn look on their faces they nodded and opened the portal. I can't believe it, this will all be over soon. First Mavis, Mira, Wendy, Juvia, Gray, Levy and Gajeel went through. On the other side of the portal they waved, with a group of people from their dimension. If I remember correctly it was the rest of Fairy Tail and the Sabertooth guild. Wasn't there a portal open there before? It must had closed. Then Zeref, Acnologia, Pantherlily, Carla and Erza went through the portal. This was actually happening everyone was going to leave. I look around. It's too easy, what's the catch? It's never this easy.

"Good, now the rest of you for through the-" Maya started but there was a sound that stopped everything. The portal zipped shut, eyes widened to the size of dinner plates and screams filled the air.

BANG!!! I could hear a bullet being shot from a gun but from where? BANG!!! Two gunshots? I looked around and managed to see Hawkmoth. With a gun in his hand. With a gun in his hand. With a gun in his hand. With a gun is his hand. Why does he have a gun in his hand? Where did he get the gun from? The gunshot sounds came from his direction, didn't they? Why did he have a gun is his hand? I ignored my thought for a moment I quickly scanned the room to see if anyone got shot. I saw everyone was fine except for the people in front of me. Or well more like in front of Maya.
