Chapter 2

Tristan's POV

Wow. That was a rush. I don't know what it is, but once I get on stage and my fingers touch the keyboard, it's like I'm in my own world. It's weird. Something about today was different. As my fingers glided across the keyboard, and the notes carelessly exited my mouth, I found myself searching for her beautiful hazel eyes in the crowd.

Carmen. God, she's so beautiful. Yeah, she isn't the skinniest girl, or the prettiest, but she's unique, and that's what draws me to her. I'm so used to girls throwing themselves at me, but with Carmen it's the opposite. She has this radiant personality, that I've become obsessed with. As you can probably tell by now, I'm truly, madly, and deeply in love with my best friend. Well maybe "love" is too strong of a word, but I do really like her.

I decided that I'm going to keep it to myself. There is no way that she could feel the same way about me. I am nothing special. Sure, I have extremely good looks, and an amazing voice, but that's nothing special. She's perfect, and she deserves better than me.

I snapped back into reality once I heard the abrupt roar of applause. I timidly got up and did a small bow as I exited the stage.

"Hey! Tristan!" I heard someone yell. I quickly turned my head to find a middle-aged, bald guy wearing a suit and sunglasses standing before me.

"Hi, Tristan Reed, right? I'm Carter Demado, from Widescape Records in LA. What you did out there was amazing, and you've definitely sparked my interest young man," he proclaimed in his rather deep voice.

"Th-thank you s-so much, Mr. Demado," I stuttered shyly.

"I have talked to some people at my company, and if you're interested, we would love to move you out to LA, and turn your amazing potential into hit records," he said with a slight smirk on his face.

"O-oh my god! This is absoluetly insane! Of course I want to, but I have to speak with my parents first," I said with a slight tone of annoyance.

"No need! My assistant spoke with your mother in the crowd right after you're show! She was very excited, and said it was completely up to you," said Carter.

"Oh wow, then yes. Definitely yes! Thank you so much," I said in pure amazement.

"Great you and your parents just need to sign some contracts. The only thing is, in order for you to haves hit record ready for the summer, we need you to move to LA by this weekend," exclaimed Carter.

"This weekend?! That's literally in five days," I said in bewilderment.

"I understand that we are asking a lot of you, but to make it in this business you are going to have to make some sacrifices," said Carter in a warning manner.

"I understand, Mr. Demado. Let me just pack up my stuff and say goodbye to my friends," I said sadly.

"Great! I knew you would understand. We will send you your plane tickets within the next two days. Nice seeing you Tristan," Carter says slowly walking away.

(a few hours later)

Wow. This is so surreal. I honestly can't wrap my head around it. I have already finished packing up my room. I just need to help my parents pack up the rest of the house. My Mom thought it would be best if we left as early as possible, so I could have more time to settle in before I had to get into the studio to start recording.

There is only one problem. Carmen has no idea. I know I need to tell her, but I can't stand to see the look on her face when I tell her, or I would never be able to leave.

Maybe this move will be good for me. I can finally get over Carmen, and really focus on my music and career. I love her, but I know it would never work out.

I decide to just break it to her over the phone. I know that it's a jerky move, but I could never say it to her face. My plan was to call her, tell her the news, and then quit cold turkey. No more contact with her. It is the only way this can work.

I slid the lock screen to the side, and type in my password with ease. I click on the little green phone icon, and go to my favorites.

I don't know how long I stare at her contact, waiting to push the call button. What feels like minutes, is actually hours.

When I finally decide to man up and grow a pair, I quickly click the call button before I change my mind. It rings twice, and then I hear her beautiful, soft voice say, "Hello?"

"H-hey Carmen. I-uh-I have some news!" I stutter quietly.

"Why do you sound so nervous Tristan? What do you have to tell me?" Carmen says excitedly and nervously.

"After the show, a talent manager contacted me and we negotiated a deal. Carmen, I'm officially signed!" I say with happiness clear in my voice.

"W-what? That's amazing Trist! I'm so happy for you! Oh, and don't worry I will come with you to record so you don't get nervous, haha!" Carmen said jokingly.

"T-there is one little problem, Carmen," I said nervously.

"What is it?" she said confused.

"They want me to m-move to LA, to record. I leave in two days."
