XXII - Outside

It was a few minutes later when we already walked out of the building. I suddenly realized how long I hadn't been outside- it must've been months! The cold wind blew snowflakes in my face, and the wide, crowded streets around me with the high buildings almost made me feel like this place was some kind of huge church or temple for the god of technology. I saw letters of light in all colours I knew, attracting attention to many tower-like buildings, made out of metal, glass and concrete. I knew this, I had seen it many times before, and yet somehow it seemed very strange to me.

"We can't fly here." Theo said. "Too many people will see us."

"Can we fly?" I asked.

"I can't." Theo whispered, gesturing that I had to speak softer. "But you can, and you can help me. You need Atmo combined with Bio powers for that."

We searched our way through the crowd in the streets. All of them chatting, laughing or looking at their phones. I remembered my phone was still at home. Would it still be there? Or would our house already be empty or sold to someone else?

"Remarkable how normals need their phone all the time in order to be happy." Theo mumbled. "Makes me feel like even I can be saved."

"You can't." I said, and sped up a little. Two walls of shops and offices guided us to a more quiet area in the city. We walked though a quarter, and the kids playing on the quiet streets stared at us.

"Theo- I think our clothes are a bit odd." Since we didn't really go outside, we had no winter clothes. Both of us were wearing snowy white T-shirts and bright blue jeans- the standard dresscode for Shinelings after a disaster. The snowflakes in Theo's hair made him look a bit like a winter fairy.

Suddenly a pack of snow was launched into my face, and I heard the kids cheer and laugh.

Angrily I wiped the snow out of my face. "Who did that?" I shouted.

The kids ran away laughing. "Witches! Demons!" they cheered, and threw some more snow at us.

"Wait a moment." I grabbed some snow and formed it into a ball. An evil smile lit up my face, and I threw it. It grew bigger and bigger in the air, until it was just rolling on the ground, a huge ball of snow.

"Now they have a reason to run." I laughed.
