The closer I came to the strange glowing lagoon, the more my curiosity grew. I knew Neverland was supposed to be full of fun and interesting things but all i'd seen so far was a bunch of teenage boys and one mildly attractive possible demon.

The words of the dream girl kept running through my head. When I'd told her I hated her, everything changed... things became somber. That dream just felt too real to only be some figment of my imagination.

When I got to the water I sat down and stared at the blueish greenish tint, it was really quite beautiful.

I sat there absentmindedly looking into the distance for a while before a splash made me gasp and look down into the water. A beautiful girl with dark brown hair and green eyes stared back at me.

She seemed friendly, and smiled at me before speaking, "Hey. I'm Marina, and you are..?"

"Alyssa... what are you doing in the water? Do you need help?"

Marina let out a soft laugh, "No silly. Instead of explaining, how about I just show you?" She swam a bit farther out into the lagoon and floated on her back. When I saw what Marina was trying to show me I almost fainted with excitement.

Where her torso ended, a brilliant red and yellow tail began.

"You're a m-m-"

"Mermaid? Yes I am." She laughed and swam closer to me, "Now the question is, who are you? You seemed awful sad when you came over here... you don't seem like the type to be on Neverland. Normally the mermaids and Tink are the only girls here.

How are you doing?"

I looked at Marina with her soft green eyes, so contrasting to the sharpness of Pan's. For some reason I trusted her... maybe it was just because she was another female and I missed girl talk.

"Actually..." Suddenly I started crying, "I miss home so much, and I don't understand why I'm here... and I just feel so confused."

"It's alright. I don't blame you... Pan can just be so horrible." Then Marina got closer to me and spoke in a whisper, "If you really want to go home... I have a way."

This caught my attention.

" The mermaids and I have a portal, in the lagoon, just deep enough where Pan wouldn't think to look. It's been there forever, but it's only been used a few times, Neverland tends to grow on people. But maybe, If you really hate it here, I can take you to the portal right now."

"Yes, yes, yes... thank you. Oh my gosh thank you!" I was stunned and before I could say much else I began to slip into the water inch by inch. Marina helped to ease me in and once I was there I began to swim in place. Marina grabbed a hold of my wrist and looked at me with ever comforting eyes.

"Now Alyssa,"

Her pupils began to dilate...but they didn't stop. The blackness soon grew over the green in her eyes and then the whites. Her lips drew back into a sinister smile, and there lay razor sharp yellowing teeth. I began to struggle but she only clenched my wrist harder

"take a deep breath."

I didn't have time to gasp, she dragged me under the water and began to swim fast to the lagoon floor.

I kicked and struggled, that only made her swim faster.

Then... she let me go. That's when the real hell began.

At first I only felt the slight ripple in the water, then I opened my eyes.

Around me swam about ten mermaids, all with eyes as sick and black as Marina. They were sizing me up... seeing who would attack first and how I would react. They were waiting for me to make a move.

I began to swim up as fast as I could.

I saw the red first, the warm dark liquid spreading through the water. Then I realized the pain I felt in my arm. When I looked over Marina had sunk her teeth into my upper arm and all the mermaids were surrounding me... getting closer.

That's when I began to scream, the pain was simply too much. And once I had no air to scream with, I began to numb. The feeling of suffocation overcame the pain of having my flesh shredded.

I closed my eyes. If I was going to die right then, I wanted to die with some form of peace.

My eyes shot open when I felt arms latch around me, and Marina's teeth leave my arm. Then I was moving, I couldn't tell in which direction. The lack of oxygen to my brain was clouding my thoughts.

When I broke the surface of the water the first thing I did was gasp for air, then throw up the spare water that had made it's way into my lungs.

The second thing I did was look up into the eyes of someone who was supposed to be a demon,

someone I was supposed to hate.

Instead, all I saw was broken boy who I didn't understand, but for the first time realized I needed to.
