Lucy opened her eyes and found herself on the bare floor, surrounded by ...toys?

Memories of the night before came rushing back to her. She looked down at her leg, seeing the stitches and dried up blood.

It hurt but it was bearable.

She heard footsteps coming towards her and lay back down out of fear. The person stopped and stood in front of her, watching her. That made her nervous and uncomfortable.

"Get up, I know you're awake" a deep female voice said but she didn't move , " I don't have time for this" she pulled her up and Lucy looked at the tall woman in front of her.

She had a frown on her face. Her thin eyebrow was raised up over one of her green eyes and her long brown hair covering the other. She was slim and looked a little over twenty and she wore ripped jeans and a tank top.

"We need to get as many supplies as we can before the zombies come. Just because you are new to this, doesn't mean you are exempted. As far as I know, you are just an extra mouth to feed."

She finally let go of Lucy's hand and turned to walk away.

"Follow me"

Lucy stood, shocked. No one had ever talked to her like that. She was used to being treated specially. She wanted to curl up in a ball and cry her heart out, but she knew better than to delay the obviously annoyed woman.

She caught up with her and walked beside her, keeping a reasonable distance.

"Grab a cart, we'll need to get as much as possible" Lucy looked around and saw a turned over cart lying on the ground.

They were in a supermarket. It looked like a parade of elephants had just run around it. The light was flickering and broken glass was all over the floor along with spilled and dented drinks.

The woman picked edibles from the floor and stands, throwing them into the cart. They got to a section that had bottled water and she picked a few packs, throwing them into the cart as well.

"Miss?" Lucy finally found the courage to speak.

"The name's Helena"

"What happened?"

"You passed out because you lost a lot of blood and Brad stitched you up."

"Oh. How many of you are here and where are you headed"

"Now is not the time to chat. Right now, we need to get a lot of food, water and some knives"

"Knives?" Lucy's blood ran cold as she stared at the woman, wide eyed.

"I'm pretty sure they don't sell guns or bullets at a supermarket" she smiled at her for the first time, she realised how beautiful the woman was, " so knives are our best option for now"

"But where is everyone" her smile turned into a frown and she sighed.

"Well, I suppose there is no point of not talking to you, since you'll be with us for a long time ...if the zombies don't get you first" Lucy's blood ran cold again and Helena noticed her discomfort, "what?... It's the fact"

She turned to a section with a display of knives. She looked at all of them carefully before she began selecting.

"We are five, plus you making six. Three guys and three gals. There's Brad, he drives most of the time, excellent racer but a little shaky in fighting. Big glutton, buy him a burger and he's your best friend."

Lucy smiles at this as she rolls the cart, listening to her.

"Dave, he's the one that saved your ass. My man."
